Awesome pictures ferventkids! Those are adorable peeps!

I just went to check on my broody and she has 5 peeps out, 5 pips and one not doing anything just yet....the little bantie egg that she had, made it to half hatch, then I guess something happened because my hen kicked it out of the nest and ants found it.

Not sure what went wrong with that one because it was a fully formed chick, got half way out and then just passed. Well, I guess nature has it's reasons but I was so looking forward to seeing that tiny little baby!

Congratulations on all the hatches thus far.

I am having a bit of a conundrum here. Yesterday was lock down for this hatch at my house. I candled the eggs and put them in the hatcher, somehow I missed a non fertile egg when I did the candling at 10 days so I took it out. As I candled each one I noticed something strange.ALL the eggs were dark at the top and clear at the bottom. I know something is growing in these because it wasn't like this at the 10 day mark. It appears that the air space is at the bottom( small end of the egg). I have the eggs in egg carton sections and am wondering how the chick is supposed to hatch line this. Can it get itself out of the shell upside down or will the air space move to the top (big end of the egg)? My temp is holding steady at 100.9 and the humidity is holding at 60%. The eggs were in a auto turner until yesterday afternoon when I removed them and placed them in the 2nd incubator I set up as a hatcher. The eggs were placed in the egg carton sections in the same position they were in the turner so the hopefully hatching chicks wouldn't get confused. This will be the my very first hatch if anything hatches. The first attempt was met with all quitters.

Well still nothing here really. Hoping for something major tomorrow though

Since my other thread isn't doing to well I'm moving my second batch of eggs over here. I have green laying EE, buff laced polish, white crested black polish, barred olive eggers, Blue/Splash Orpingtons, wheaten/blue wheaten Ameraucanas, Salmon Fav, and exchequer leghorn. They are a split hatch...the 7 olive eggers, 6 EE, 6 polish and 3 salmon fav were set on the 19th. The 7 Orpingtons were set the 24th 6 wheaten ameraucanas and 5 leghorns were set the 27th.

I'm using a LG still air set at 100 at the top and 99.+ at the bottom, humidity 45%. I have wigglers in my polish eggs for sure! I have had to cull one fav egg and two buff laced polish so far.

I had one that looked like that too, I figured it was dead. I left it in the bator for lockdown anyway though. I am using the egg carton method too...if anyone knows whats up with the eggs that would be neat to know.

So sorry for your little chick loss.

We had 1 small white egg( All the rest brown)that was the very last to hatch I was almost thinking it wouldnt. It ended up being the brown chick. Its pretty neat having them not look alike.

I am wondering if I need to take them out of the carton sections and lay them on their sides. I know lock down means LOCK DOWN, and this means HANDS OFF, but I don't want the little peepers to drown or suffocate. Its not just one or two, but ALL of the eggs.
