For the first time I'm putting eggs under one of my year old Blue Wyandotte broodies. I'm nervous since it will be a first for me and the hen! Hope she will be a good mom!?

Have fun with your cute babies!!

Alright my second hatch is now in lockdown and hoping for a good hatch

I also took my two other chocins out of the big brood and put them in the chickie hospital brooder, they have a very calm temperment so they aren't bothering the glue chicks at all.

On a side note - hard boiled egg yoke! Best chickie treat ever, funny as heck to watch too.

Congratulations! Nice picture, and thank you for sharing with us! I love watching broodies with babies!

Thanks! I did separate him from the others for the first day and a half. He had one sibling to keep him company, as that one was a bit of a runt. After that, everyone got moved to a 55 gal tank for the brooder. I have a piece of hardware cloth to separate the BRs from the RIRs. The BRs were just so much larger. He seems to be doing better each day. He only flops over once or twice now. I had to get him to dip his beak in water for the first day too. But now, he is fiesty and getting around. I am happy about that! Maybe next hatch I'll try to get my humidity slightly lower. I opened the unhatched eggs last night. Two never developed, 5 had fully formed chicks. They just never pipped. It you guys experienced opinions, was it a good first hatch?

I had the same problem with one of my chicks. She kept falling on her back and couldn't get up. Now on day 3 she is just fine!

I also had to help one chick out of the shell. My humidity must have been too high because three of the 8 chicks were huge and couldn't turn in the shell to zip and two died

The one that I helped is just starting to get better. She was so twisted that her feet turn in and she has had trouble walking and is still not eating and drinking like the rest. I have to dip her beak and make her drink several times a day. I would protect your baby from being trampled and he should be fine

GOOD LUCK!

Great I'm already starting to think I see my eggies moving... I hate egg staring syndrome

Soo since I had 'glue' chicks last time I'm decreasing my starting humidity by 3 to 5% and going to see if that makes a difference. Heres hoping that all three of my polish eggs hatch!!!!

It's been a while since I've posted here!! I've been very busy also since I just finished selling off my stock

. We just can't take all the chickens from Alaska to Maine. So I have to start alllll over again once I am in Maine. But I am probably gonna start with BLRW or Orpingtons. Love both of those breeds.
Anyways...
so far there are 4 who are pipping and zipping right on date! it's only 12:07 in the afternoon here so there is still lots of time! There are 15 eggs in the bator since 3 formed blood rings. And one of the eggs is a duck egg so it still has a while to go. I don't have a camera to take pics and I couldn't really have taken good pics since my Brinsea is so small and compact.
I will update each once in a while!
