I have failed in my treatment... Just ordered more eggs!
Oh, dear. I should say: "Marcell! What were you thinking?? Tsk, tsk..."

Except I've also failed in my hatchaholic treatment, and have a full incubator and a huge new coop.

Someone else has to step in and reform us.

I have not failed yet, but I'm close.... I'm going on vacation in a few weeks and I already have some buff orpington eggs reserved for the week I get back..... I'm hoping that they live up to their reputation of going broody and will hatch more eggs for me in the future... All I need is a broody hen and a rooster and I can be a sustainable hatchaholic!

Yes!

Yes! We don't need no REFORM! LOL

Guess being a hatchaholic isn't just with chickens...

Now I'm hatching mealworm beetles!
My mealworm population has become more beetles than worms. I don't want to feed the beetles to the chickens cuz I want more worms, but I'm curious if they would eat them cuz they are so gross to look at! I hate the cocoon or whatever you want to call that thing in the first picture, that grosses me out the most!

ALL of my chickens love the mealworms so much that I would have to work a second job to buy enough freeze dried ones. When my hens were chicks they snubbed the freeze dried ones, they wouldn't touch them until they started laying. All of my chickens love the live ones though, even the 1 week old chicks knew that they were a delicacy.

On a similar note, I have seen a ton of really big earthworms in my yard lately. The hens slurp them up out of the ground and go nuts for them, but my 8 week old chicks have dug them up and ignored them like they don't even know they are food. Chickens are weird!

If you've got beetles, you've got baby worms growing. They just take time to get big enough to see. Feel free to send me any beetles you don't want!

I'm having severe withdrawal! I want to order hatching eggs but with temps still consistently below freezing and a mail carrier who likes to just drop packages in the snow by tbe mailbox...
