Hatchalong! Setting Eggs April 6, 2012. Anyone else in?

So we candled again tonight (day 13 for us). Many of the 22 left still look like they're developing OK...mostly I can see proper air space development. Some it was really hard to tell. We have really thick shelled fairly dark brown and green eggs. Keeping fingers crossed for next weekend hatch!!!

For lockdown, I'm planning to take them out of the turner and lay them down. But.... I thought I'd use the lids of egg cartons and lay six of them in each... 3 on each side of the ridge. That way they can't be rolling all over the place and the carton lid will catch some of the mess.... less to clean up later. Also a question.... do any of you put a barrier in your incubator at lockdown to keep breeds separate? How high does that barrier need to be. Would 4 inches height keep them apart or are they more "rousty" than that when first hatched?

Some people use small plastic baskets to keep hatchings seperate. 4 inches should be plenty. I lock down in my Reptipro and have a clear plastic egg flat with holes drilled in the bottom of the egg dip and in the sections between so there is plenty of air flow (at the level of the first shelf). That way they aren't rolling around and the ones with air cell problems are easy to deal with. When they are most of the way out I'll set them on the bottom so they can finish kicking out and dry. I put zip tie bands on them as they hatch if I have to know which is which, or leave them on different shelves in the RP. I also have used a drop of food colorong on light colored chicks as the hatch.

I'd like to join, I just found this thread but started mine on April 5th. Iam using the same incubator as the first post, but have not had a problem with. I've kept it in a dark room and the temps barely fluctuated. I've set if I remember 18 splash/ blue/ lavender ameracanas and 15 barn yard mix of Phoenix, black Sumatra, houdan, copper/ blue marans, and ees. All were shipped so I let them sit for over a day, then placed them unmoving in the bator for several days. The ameracanas shells are all to thick to check and the barn yard eggs are either too dark or too thick. I have not seen any leaking or smelt anything thing bad so I'm hopping all is doing good in the little bator.

I've seen this post cruising the duck forum but had yet to check it out. Thanks for sharing it.

Yeah, isn't that cool!

I don't have ducks but it must be a life saver for people who do.

Hey the more the merrier. You can see into the dark and green eggs you just need to go buy a good/small LED flash lite and do it in a dark room. The better your lite the better you see. I have some very dark Maran and EE eggs and I can see into them well enough.

What namebrand did you use? Where did you get it? I have what I thought was a powerful led, took the eggs into the bathroom with out windows but all I can see are the air sacs. That be so exciting to see inside!!

We have 2 little black chicks- yay!!!!!! They were supposed to hatch tomorrow and we came home tonight to little chirps!!! I hope they survive. I have 14 more eggs in there and they all candled properly before lockdown. I do have a couple lay dates in there so I'm hoping things will be okay. Putting them in the brooder now. Maybe we'll wake up to more. I'll try to posts pictures, but our internet speed is a little slow here. Anyone else yet??

Congrats lives2shine!

How is the staggered hatch going? Any humidity problems with the other eggs?
I had to go back and see when you set eggs to have them hatching already. LOL Exciting next few days for you! I'll be sitting on pins and needles for you and keeping my

and sending good vibes your way.
Pictures would be nice.
