I finally got a box (one of the boxes in which eggs were shipped to me) and set up a little segregated area for Rocky/Rockette inside the brooder. Added fresh pine shavings to the brooder and the little box, found little bitty cup thingies (the things you get at restaurants with sauces in 'em, like tarter sauce? those) in which to put water and some mush made with chick starter, also scattered some dry feed on the top of the mush.

Rocky/Rockette seemed non-plussed by the sudden lack of other chicks bowling it over and just looked around. Then slept. I remembered I had some hummingbird nectar (just sugar water I make myself) and I poured a tad into the little water dish.

About an hour later I checked again, and it was drinking water.... several dips, not just one like before. And it ate about 3 little bits of feed. So that's progress! My best friend has been asking about "the little warrior" when we talk, so if this chick makes it, and is a pullet, I just might name her Xena.

Glad to hear Rockette has her own room now and to hear she's doing better.

The "she" thing is a good vibe for you.

hi my names Sarah and the only thing keeping me from hatching is my mother and the fact we arnt supposed to have chickens but thats not relevant but when we move to a farm (hopefully soon) i may just go completely hog wild since my mom wants soom layers to and soo we will have lots of females for my little roster so i will have to make shure every one is happy and have lots and lots of chicks

This would be very exciting...except that my addicition caught on at a faster pace than my girlies have grown! I wouldn't have any eggies to share.

Give me a little more time, though! My soon-to-be layers are beautiful, but somewhat mixed, too...so that might impact my participation.

I just noticed for the first time last week that one of my BR girls, Penelope, actually has some green in the black portions of her barring. I LOVE this, but for someone really looking for BRs, she's not as flawless as she looks from a few feet away. My roo, Kip, on the otherhand, is quite the specimen! My other BR lady, Penny, is really more laced than barred...it gets more pronounced by the week.

I'm about to join y'all, as soon as my bator gets here... I'm already buying and bringing home all the chickens around.... LOL

Not sure I belong here. I have two LG bators (1 in storage and 1 running without eggs) I also have a broody hen we want to make un broody so we are going to shove eggs under her tomorrow.

Is it alright to turn my other eggs that need turned? I know that this kinda defies the point of a lockdown, but still. I had a bit of poor planning.
