Hatchers Anonymous *Official Thread*

Yes, it IS most definitely depressing! You put all that time & feed into them, to get a measly $5 a bird. I certainly wouldn't do it if I didn't enjoy it so much, though! It's just a hobby for me.

Okay, so now I'm thinking you must be in a warm climate to be able to market chicks in December!

LUCKY!!!

Coos Bay does have a pretty mild Climate, but it's not a warm climate.

I haven't ever tried to market them for Christmas before, but others have and had great success. People will buy anything for their kids on christmas. Especially a pet. I will also be hatching a few buttons around then as well.

Hi, Bunny here!
I candled my 23 silkie eggs (Day 5) and I See Veins and little chik embryos forming!

I think all of them but one looks good.

One of the eggs looks like it has two yolks but there are still veins. It will be a high risk eggie. I can't see through the other one as well. I also have 8 Blue Orpington eggs and the shell is so dark it is hard to see much. They are larger eggs. This is the first time i've incubated eggs and I'm so excited I could pee myself!

I am already planning my next batch of eggs!

We built our incubator out of a kitchen cabinet that goes over a refrigerator. I had some trouble at first with the temperature but I was able to fix it, thank goodness. It is working like a charm now.
Anybody else candle eggs today?

 so do you think this qualifies me for this thread

or

is it that i go to a chicken auction and have well over 100 grown birds and buy more birds just because they look nice , lol

Donnie, I think it's too late for you. You're way beyond the scope of any possible rehabilitation that HA may be able to provide.

I did take a small break from incubating. But I really have to get started again
to have pullets ready for this spring. So I have 2 dozen guinea eggs going
and 18 SLW eggs in the bator now. Will be getting a few dozen cuckoo marans
eggs next week to put in.
I did sell one of GQF incubators though. I thought it was too small so I am building
another like it only taller and with 4 settin trays and 2 hatching trays. And then I found this neat
looking old incubator made mainly from brass and copper that I just had to bid on
so maybe I will be heading to Florida the weekend to pick it up.
