Hatchery Chicks

McMurray sent me two emails stating that the mail delays do NOT extend to live chicks. Sure enough, I received my chicks within 48 hours of shipping.... It's just too bad that they were not taken better care of during shipping. As I mentioned previously, I've ordered from McMurray before and didn't lose a single chick. At least they were willing to stand behind the order and reship....especially considering that those 7 chickens cost me over $40.
My recent order to McMurray took just OVER 3 days to get here to Hawaii with express shipping at $100, NO tracking updates from the post office and NO refund for not honoring the 2 days guarantee from the post office. It was a large order for myself and several others of 55 chicks, surprisingly only lost 5, one was DOA, the others passed within 2 days of arrival so McMurray refunded these. The surviving chicks needed a lot of TLC, but happily all are thriving.
Needless to say stressful for all parties involved, especially the chicks. Only way to get certain breeds here though, unfortunately. All in all happy with McMurray's customer service.:)

I live in rural America. Needless to say, I order a lot of things through the mail because I *hate* Walmart and TSC. My options are limited... Chicks aside, the mail service is terrible. The previous owner of my farm passed away in the middle of us purchasing the property LAST DECEMBER. I *still* get his mail even though his heirs have put two "Forwarding Address" requests in with the post office. I get other people's mail all the time...and I've had mail I was expecting never show up or show up late. Amazon is a good example. Even before Covid, "2 day shipping" with Amazon was a crap shoot. Since Covid, I've had FIVE Amazon packages that simply never showed up. They issued me a refund for all of them.

So the fact that the chicks showed up within 48 hours was both a HUGE relief and a surprise. I honestly expected it to take 3-4 days. It's just really a bummer that 1/3 of my order was DOA. And I have to admit that I found it weird that ALL of the Blue Andalusians were dead. You would think at least 1 or 2 would have lived? McMurray was very supportive and never hesitated to replace them. I even offered to send them a picture of the dead chicks so they could see that I wasn't lying. They said they didn't need it.

I'm glad you got your chicks and they were all relatively healthy after such as stressful trip!

I'm happy to report that the replacement order from McMurray has arrived and no dead chicks this time! ☺

I did check the hatchery website but did not find any statement referencing this. I was just wondering what I could expect. A friend of mine ordered 50 chicks from a hatchery in Quakertown, PA, 4 months ago and was fortunate enough to get all females. If I have too many roos, I am sure I can find someone who would like a beautiful bird. I will have them for several months before I need to decide.
If that hatchery was Moyers in Quakertown, they only sell leghorns & red sexlinks, so the sexlinks would be a no brainer!

We ordered 13 Australorp pullet chicks and 2 roo chicks from My Pet Chicken early this year. The roo’s both had leg bands as requested. Our daughter took 4 pullets and 1 roo, however one of her pullets actually ended up being the 3rd roo from that batch.
We ordered another 24 Australorp pullet chicks from Hoover’s and received them in late July, at six weeks they all appear to be all females. So far this year we have received correctly sexed chicks at 99.973% rate.

We have another order of 25 Australorp females coming from Hoover’s September 22, and 10 Sapphire Blue Plymouth Rock females coming from Jenks Hatchery on September 29, so we’ll see how good the overall percentage is once those chicks are old enough to confirm.

I ordered 25 female black australorp chicks from Myer Hatchery (?Forks, Pa) and I received 26 live beautiful little ones. They were hatched on August 05, 20. I was hoping for 25 female chicks, but I have my suspicions that I may have a few males. This is my first time ordering from hatchery and was hoping after getting 2 roos out of 6 from Tractor Supply last year (supposed to be all female) I would actually get what I ordered. My question is, in general how accurate are the hatcheries? My son wants a roo so one will have a home but I still have one Sapphire Gem roo that is 1 1/2 yr old so I don't know how they would get along. I suspect I have at least 3 maybe 4 roos. I know they are only 3 1/2 weeks old so I am still hopeful that my extra chick is the only roo!! They are stinking cute, and still petrified of me! What are your experiences? TIA
Well I ordered from Meyer hatchery in Ohio and I ordered nine girls and three of three different breeds. I got three girls of the three different breeds I wanted. I am very happy. They are very healthy with so far no problems even with our severe heat even with one breed being non heat tolerant breed.
