Hatchery didn't send my birds

McMurray announced it a few weeks ago. Please inform yourself before calling out people in this manner. All hatcheries are vulnerable to HPAI. McMurray just happened to be the one that got it this year. They took the appropriate steps by calling in the authorities, culling affected birds, disinfecting all equipment, and salvaging breeds by pulling them out of hatching chicks. While they have not publicly announced the breeds affected, it looks like between 25 and 40 breeds won't be available until sometime next year... if then.
"Calling out people in this manner????" Really? I didn't call anyone out. I said it was "potentially false information" because a lot of times people repeat things on here that are just hearsay. There's nothing on the USDA website and actually, yeah they got behind for a bit but they've been updating every day, including today, a Holiday. It's still not on their website although according to McMurray the incident occurred April 1, over two weeks ago. I looked everywhere, including calling McMurray, before simply asking the question. I never order from them and never will, so there would be no reason for me to receive an email from them or anything else.

Here it is on the database:

Their farms are not all in the same county as the actual hatchery.

Metzer comes on here and posts. You might actually hear from them on here. I actually came to read the thread because I was going to order some muscovies but I might wait now. I have gotten birds from them they were healthy but not the highest quality. I had bought runners. Like everyone said crap happens and there's not a whole lot we can do about it but I too would be upset if people ordering behind me got their orders before me. But there's really no way to know that the people getting their orders could have been before you in the same situation.

I used to belong to a email thread that would report disease long before the USDA got off their butts to post. My faith in them is dismal. Like I said to my mom last week, by the time it's reported in the news, it's been experienced by flock owners for months.

I got an email from metzer this morning basically just saying things didn't work out, we didn't ship your birds. We will send them in 3 weeks.

This is after an email last Friday explicitly saying I would hear from them by Wednesday if anything like this were going to happen.

I ordered and paid over a month ago, and at the time they had hundreds left. They gave me no reason at all, and frankly I don't have the brooder space to push this back 3 weeks with broilers coming just after my new date.

Anyone have any ideas what could have happened. It seems really disrespectful to me.
The same thing happened to me last year (different hatchery)

Semantics is the art of turning a piece of half-raw castrated bull meat into a sizzling hot juicy rib-eye steak.

A close personal friend runs a commercial hatchery. He is sweating bullets.

I felt like I was being called out tbh. But I can see why you would with the disinformation everywhere on every topic. The OP wasn’t talking about McMurray but I mentioned it as a possible reason because it is just that. As people have said McMurrays outbreak was weeks ago but they didn’t tell the public until some time after because they were (understandably) dealing with the affects. Whether it was true or not (which people have backed me up), AI can happen to almost anyone and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy, never mind if I support a hatchery by buying their birds. Metzer is a very reputable company (one that I have and would purchase from again despite my feelings about hatcheries in general). That being said, AI is a possibility and one that maybe requires some patience and understanding if we’re just all speculating causes for this situation anyways. All the OP can do is wait for a response from them anyways. Could be the order got lost… or could be a lot worse.

I don't like the USDA for a number of reasons, but I can see where they're overwhelmed with this. They did maintenance on their site a week or so ago and since then it's been what I feel is a pretty reliable source of information. The news on the other hand reports the same thing over and over, even on stuff that's old. Anything to find something to write about. That is why here we go to as many resources as we can find. Recently though, on our Next Door app someone said she worked for the USDA and that the virus was only in "winged animals". "Winged animals"??? I asked her if bats were afflicted with the virus then. After several days of her apparently doing research, she replied "no".
