I am putting in my very first order for ducklings soon, so I don't have a lot of experience, but I think you can consider yourself better off this way. It sounds like their customer service is terrible, and I cannot imagine the outcome and wrangling that would have happened if the birds had not all shipped safely etc. Then you would have been truly out the money most likely.
