Hatchery Issues

Just got an e-mail from the hatchery: 'Sadly your ducklings were to ship Monday, but you can consider your order officially canceled BY you'

I think, I rather pass ;-)

Good luck to everybody who is still waiting for his order!
That's total BS, they were never going to ship. Hot weather is a good excuse for not shipping, many breeders will do that. However, they made it seem that they set aside specific eggs and ducklings for you way back in April/May. They would be too old for safe shipping in June or July. That's what's weird about this whole thing. Hatcheries usually ship either day-olds or adults, not one or two month old ducklings. I'm curious about the hatchery, too, but it sounds like it's too small and might not be one that people would know or usually choose, especially if it's on the East Coast. I would send a complaint to their local BBB and anywhere else that requests feedback about them.

Just got a notice from Paypal that I have received my refund from Strombergs. I like Ideal Poultry. I have 2 orders of bantams from them this year. Unfortunately I could not use Paypal to order the specials since their web site insisted on a credit card so I got my daughter to order for me even though Ideal says they take Paypal. McMurray takes Paypal and I ordered from them 3 times last year but only once for birds and those were ducklings that shipped from Metzer. I like McMurray's web site better and it is really easy to place an order but Ideal's specials are really great deals My feather legged bantam assortment was only $1. each + $10.75 small order charge and shipping and my assorted Silkies $1.05 each.. They have a special on ducklings this week only $2. each.

Ugh, right?? And they have the gall to be all passive-aggressive and blame it on the customer! Please tell me they have some sort of customer rating site so I can be sure to go and rip 'em a new one. That's just ridiculous. Jerks.

The thing that I like about Ideal is that they are really cheap and they don't make you buy 25 chicks!

Strombergschickens.com (aka Strombergs chicks and game birds unlimited) is in Minnesota. Ideal is in Texas.

I am waiting to receive my 10 Ancona ducklings from Boondockers. They have been corresponding with me, but state they are have problems with hatching this year. This is on their website toda:

We are running a little behind this 2014 season. We have stopped taking orders for 2014, we can put you on the wait list and if we have enough for this season we will fulfill the order. It has been a tricky one, the most difficult yet with hatching. We will get all orders out through July and August. Thanks for your patience with our breeding program!
He has not given any more details about their problems.

Since all Ancona ducklings are sold out for 2014 we decided to get hatching eggs.

Depending on the success we might have some straight runs available for pick-up soon.

So far, it looks promising
