Does anyone know when each of the hatcheries stop sending out baby chicks?
(Ideal, MM etc..)
Most send out chicks year round. Specialty and game birds are more seasonal.
Oh I hope so.....
I'm only going to be able to order in August or so, and a lot of those I see in MM catalog, say only shipped through July!
Some say October....
Perhaps that means those prices are only valid till that date, and perhaps I will get new reading material when a new catalog arrives!
Why don't you go ahead and put in your order for what you want so they are not Sold Out when it gets to August. I would think that if you had your order in "first" you would stand a better shot at getting what you want. With most hatcheries you can choose your delivery date.
I would think the intense heat of an august delivery date would only add uneccessary stress to the babies.
I know that our local feed store sells chicks in the spring & again in the fall, but not in the "summer". It's kind of nice though because they put the chicken stuff on sale about now, so I can replace feeders and such while saving a little $.
I don't want to order right now - as we're in California, moving to Nebraska at the end of july-ish... no set date, we will also have to build the coop etc...
I'm terrified I will order and they'll arrive and I won't be ready for them.
I want to get them as soon as I can so they're grown before it gets freezing cold out there. I've never lived where there is snow, so that concerns me.
I just got an order of chickies from Ideal and on the packing slip it said 'Hatching Year Round'. I do know that they run out of certain breeds. I had ordered golden campines and Iwanted to add more after I made the initial order but they had sold out. I still got the originial order just no extras. Some of their breeds said sold out til 2008.
Wow, I'm assuming then if they're sold out till 2008 on certain breeds, then people are ordering WELL in advance!
Perhaps I should order soon......... I'm just, well...chicken!
