Hatchery with the best assorted chick package

So im looking to add variety to my flock next yr. And want to buy a assorted package. I live in Missouri and had thought of going with Cackle. I like to have a rainbow of color not a bunch of black chickens a bunch of red chickens was eyeballing the rare chick Straight Run package . So if anyone has got a mixed package were did you get it from and did you get a good assortment? And when is the best time to get the package? Was aiming for March or April figured it would be starting to get warm. Right know my favorite chickens i got are the Columbia Wyandotte love the black on white color. If it was not so expensive i would select 5 of each breed i liked but wow that is expensive that way.

We were very happy with an assortment of pullets from My Pet Chicken for $49.99 including shipping, 25 chicks. Got cinnamon queens, a sicilian buttercup, a couple of white crested black polish, easter eggers, barnevelders, golden and silver lakenvelders (1 of each), couple of others I can't think of right now. We actually temporarily fostered them here for Linda & they were actually her chicks, but it was a really good assortment. I think you get less of a variety this late in the year, though. It all depends on what season it is when you order.

The chickens last for a long time. I think it is worth it to order exactly what you want. It doesn't cost that much more. Certainly less additional than the cost of going to a movie.

You'll enjoy the chickens a lot longer than you'll enjoy that movie.

If you don't care what you get, then the assortments are good. If you've got one breed that you really want, perhaps an assortment plus 3-4 of the specific breed that you know you want.

I agree completely. I got a (selected) grab-bag this year having gotten only barred rocks two years ago, and boy do I miss those girls!!! The other breeds (Wyandotte, Australorp, EE, Ancona) are ok, but I just love love LOVE the rocks and would go back in a heartbeat. I'm now working to find a Partridge Rock breeder since I love both the color and the personality. I guess I'm a one-breed kind of girl.

Got cold winters? You might want to pick cold hardy breeds instead of a general multipack of rare breeds...that is, if you want them to thrive and survive.

I ordered 25 assorted heavies from Murray McMurray and I received- Delawares, Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks, Salmon Favorelles, Turkens, and Dark Cornish. While I wasn't looking for anything in particular, I recieved exactly what I was looking for.

Beekiss if you look at the rare assortment. Most breeds are heavy breeds. There are cochin, brahma and some rocks and a few other heavy breds mixed in.
