i have a total of 10 chicks

Well it's day 22 and I only have two pips so far. They pippe this morning and havent made much progress so far. Some of the others are moving a little but havent pipped. This is making me sooooo nervous. I wish the little buggers would just hatch already. (did I mention patience is not my strong suit)

Ughhhhh! The waiting sucks.

Keep your fingers away from the incubator.

It's so difficult for me to watch them hatch. It just looks so darn hard for the little babies to get out of the egg.

Good luck!

Oh this is already going bad. The first one born I had to help cause he was shrinkwrapped. He didnt absorb all of his yolk and was still attached to his shell. I put him in a warm wet washrag with the shell still attached and wrapped him(all but his head) so he couldnt move around much. I couldnt believe it but after checking just now he has absorbed it all and his belly button is just protruding a little. I put a bandaid on him and he is up walking around the bator and tweeting like crazy. I have the one other one who is pipped but not doing anything else so far and no more pips. Some are still moving once in a while, not sure what is gonna happen. I'm afraid I may have lost them as it is getting close to the 23 day. I can see the beak on the one that's pipped and he is definitely still alive but I'm not sure if he will hatch or not. I hope so cause my little one with the booboo seems awful lonely. Man I hope I dont end up with just one again. (also it's my eggs that have pipped/hatched, no green ones are doing anything so far ugghhh!!!)I hope everyone else is having a little smoother time. Say a prayer for my chickies.

I'm so bummed. Only 1 of 9 hatched. Only 1 of 9 pipped. I did a 'check' and half had abnormalities, 2 missing eyes. Guess my bator had temp problems when I was at work on one of those days or maybe a temporary 'squirrel' power outtage. Well, it's a good thing I'd gotten all those chicks from Ideal to cheer me up! The one that hatched is crazy! Not very cuddly, I'm thinking, a boy. *sigh* I hope the rest of you fared better.

I am not giving up yet! I will wait till day 23

The one with the belly problem is doing great. He's in the brooder now and has ate and pooped.

Hopefully he's gonna make it just fine. The other one that had pipped yesterday did the same darn thing. It bled a little too and had not absorbed it's yolk. I did the same thing I did with the first one. It's wrapped in the washrag but it is not as active as the first one. It just lays there and doesnt move or peep. I'm afraid I may lose it. I had three more pips this morning(day 23) so dont give up yet sillystunt. I think my temp must have been way to low or something. I had 3 thermometers and they all read way different. I'm not real proud of the LG bator either. It doesnt want to hold steady temps. I did check on a green egg while getting the chick out to go to the brooder. It hadnt moved in a long time. It was dead but fully formed. It had deformed feet though and hadnt absorbed any of it's yolk sac. Even though it's sad I'm thinking it may be a blessing. I had one with deformed feet a few weeks ago and it seemed to get better with vitamins and then just died out of nowhere. At least I dont have to go throught that again. I'll post pics of my lil guy with the bandaid butt in a little while. He is interesting. Blackish with a reddish tint on his head. He's a cross of BO and White Rock. Not sure why the blackish color. My white rocks had a grayish tint when I got them as chicks and the BO was yellow. Maybe their not full blooded. It will be fun to see what color he turns out to be.

So glad your hatch turned out well rarebreedeggs. I'm not sure why everyone else is struggling. Maybe the time of year? I think I'll wait till spring to try again.

The first one with the belly problem is doing great. The second one died. Out of 36 eggs(only 16 made it to lockdown) I ended up with 5 live chicks ( at least for now) I'm not at all sure about the one in the bator right now. He had a air bubble looking thing on his shoulder right above his wing. It is going down now but I'm not sure what caused it and if there is any underlying problems that might affect him. I guess we'll see. I had one that turned out to have been an early quitter. It had a beak but no feathers. Then one was a dwarf. It had matured completely it was just extremely small and it's toes were all fused together. It had died in the shell. Then one that had died in the shell had it's brain exposed It's head had never closed up. Another one had hatched with some yolk sac hanging out. I put a bandaid on it and went to bed. When I got up it had kicked off the bandaid and had it's belly bleeding pretty badly. It was in bad shape and I had to cull it. The other 6 seemed perfectly normal but never pipped into the aircell and died. I am pretty discouraged. The hatch was late and so many died. I just know some of it is due to my stupid still air LG. It wont stay steady. I may try again at some point but right now I am so discouraged. Only one of the easter eggers hatched. He seems healthy but has a splayed leg and doesnt walk right. I tried splinting it with a pipe cleaner but it doesnt seem to be working so far. I'll put up some pics of the 5 cuties I do have at some point. I hope the rest of you did better than I did.

Kristi.....I'm sorry your hatch didn't go as well as you hoped. Maybe you can find a better incubator on craigslist and try again sometime.

Congrats on the 5 babies though! Looking forward to seeing pics. And I hope the EE heals well for you and turns out to be a girl.
