Hatching and adding

If added 20 eggs and I checked after a day and pulled out 5 that looked like they were not incubating then added 5 new eggs. Would a one day difference do anything much? Humidity and temperature would just be a day off? Would this result in a lower hatch rate or a higher death rate? I haven’t ever done anything like this so I’m not sure but I think it sounds a bit risky.

I'm not sure how you would tell after one day......... I usually candle after one week. I did once have 3 chicken eggs in an incubator for 2 weeks, then I bought 24 quail eggs on a whim because I wanted more variety in my flock. hatched 2 chicken eggs and 12 quail eggs. 1 chicken and 11 quail survived to adulthood, chicks and quails being housed separately.

Agee with the others, 1 day aint going to matter. I usually put eggs in for 3 days after the frst eggs are in the bator. Like @Chicken_tiger_catt said you wont be able to tell if an egg is not developing at day one. The earliest would be day three, best to candle at day 7.

Thank you! In the past I have been able to mark eggs that looked like a normal not growing egg (comparing to not incubating eggs). Will I be able to wait untill 3 days? Like do what I said but 3 days instead of one?

You could do the 3 day stagger. Just put them in lockdown when the first one is ready for lockdown. A couple extra days of lockdown won't be a problem for the later ones. You should still be able to brood the chicks together. I would not recommend staggering more than that.
