My Focus At Present Is Breeding The Butlers For Max Size, I Really Dont Want Pretty Show Bobs-- I Have Enough Ornimental Pheasants And Waterfowl,,, The Bob Project Is Sheer Size.
That's what I am doing with some of my English Coturnix. I will hatch about 50 and keep the ten biggest for reproduction. The rest go strait to the freezer.
If I Go For Ornimental Quail It Will Be Mountains And Mearns (montezuma)
Being A Gamebird Farm I Find The Most Profitable Niche Is With Exotics,,, Sumo Wrestler Sized Bobs, Ornimental High Dollar Speces Like Mountains And High Dollar Exotics Like Mearns.... Despite Bad Economy These Type Of Eggs Almost Always Sell And Usually Fetch A Decent Price.
I do a lot of both. The asian store drops by my place every two weeks to pick up about 12 dozen eggs. I also sell them at the new farmers market that just opened 5 minutes from my house. I also have a local resteraunt that will buy some meaties. I can't hatch enough to keep up with the requests. I have about 7 people on my fertile egg waiting list. Hopefully I will have enough quail to sell a lot more by next spring.
