hatching around the 26th post UPDATES here

They are very cute. Guess what I have, yep a pip!!! Hopefully the first of many. I know I won't be able to sleep now. Or maybe I should so they will all pip. I think they like it when we are stressed over them.

Well so far I have two babies out of the five. It looks like they are pure mille fleur d'uccles.

Now here is hoping that they are both hens! I had a little talk with them and they seemed to agree that they would like to be girls, they also agreed at that point that a nap was in order...

I just ended my waiting and watching. I have 6 cute little fluffy butts that I put in the brooder this morning. I candled the remaining unpipped eggs and nothing that looked like it was alive. Two chicks pipped, one had even started to zip, then quit.

So far, no one has had a particularly successful hatch from my eggs, so I think I need to figure out where the problem is in the flock. I've got another 40 eggs in the 1602 bator (the previous hatches were started in the 1588). If I still only get 50% or less hatch rate I'll know it wasn't the relatively low temps of the 1588 (never higher than 99, often down to 97ish).

On the positively bright side of all of this, the 6 new babies are keeping my wounded Leghorn baby company -- they're in separate brooders, but can see and talk to each other.

Finally 2 Hatched and 4 more pipping. Still have several wigglers. 1 chick pipped at 8:30am Jan 27th did not hatch until 9:00pm that night. 2nd one pipped at 5:00pm did not hatch until 12:00 midnight. At 7:00am today Jan 28th had four more pips. Hatching is definatley slow but exciting.
