Hatching at high altitudes?

Im at 3200 ft and have had no problems. I keep the ventilation open half way or just take out one of the red plugs. Are they shipped eggs? I do have some that die in early incubation and I think it might be due to cold, handling, etc. from the breeder to me. Its really hard to say why they die, it just could be a number of things. Another problem I run into here is low humidity. I deal with that by keeping a humidifier in the room I incubate in. I hope you find out what went wrong with your hatch. Im sure you will have better luck next time.

Oh, what kind of Thermometer are you using? My first hatch I lost because the dang thing was off. It read 2 degrees to high. I would recommend testing that as well, with a medical thermometer.

I have a springfield, an accurite, a digital oral therm, AND a normal oral therm...All have been within a degree...

IMO I would try putting your oral one in a water wiggler and see what it reads after a day. I had so many problems with trying to keep the right temp. I was lucky to have a brinsea incubator so it did keep it in a good range of temp. I just ended up buying one of those spot check thermometers from Brinsea. GQF sells them also. I have some eggs hatching on the 6th and 9th. I've had to tweek a few things along the way, but I think I might have it down pat this time. Good luck with yours. Dont get discouraged, you will figure it out

I used a baggie. I filled two 1/2 way and layed the thermometer in between the bags. The only problem I had was that after a couple of days being in the heat, they leaked. They were freezer bags too.

I don't have a water wiggler. I don't have room in the incubator. I bought the cheapest Accurite they had at Wal*Mart and just had a 65% hatch rate on Jody's (HINKJC) buff silkie eggs. And I'm in Wyoming, which is somewhere around 6,000 ft.
