Thanks for the info Isaac, i was unaware of that so will dig it over.. was going to re-grass it anyway. They are only in there at night, free range during day and also have a kind of half way house semi secure pen which is all woodchip.Congrats on your/her hatch!
Are they in that pen all day? Bare compacted dirt is conducive to many problems like Podermatisis (bumblefoot) Obesity, malnutrition, arthritis, and many other problems related to lack of hygienic practices. I would put a thick layer of wood chips, leaves, and other decomposable soft organic matter that'll be easier on their feet and soak up more moisture.
