I am currently hatching my first set of chicks. My broody buff orpington has been sitting on a clutch of 9 eggs. Two have hatched already today and she is patiently waiting on the others. My question is, I live in Michigan and we are currently having some unusually cold weather this week, dropping into the low 30s, high 20s tonight. My gut tells me the chicks will be fine because their mother will keep them warm but I am wondering if anyone else has been through a similar experience. Should I be moving the chicks to the brooder or will mother hen be able to keep them warm on her own tonight. I really want her to raise them naturally but am worried about the temps for the next few nights. The temps will be going up into the mid to high 50s over the weekend and 60s next week so I am sure they will be fine then. Curious to hear others thoughts on this.
