Hatching day 18

Quote: Have you looked in the breeders directory in the Practical Poultry magazine for breeders? I don't recall seeing Silkies last time I looked, but there may be some. Hope you find what you are looking for!

My temps have stayed between 99.5 and 100.2. for the entire hatch (except for the drop when candling of course). Right now temp is 99.5 and humidity is 68%. The early bird is peeping and rocking so the move must not have disturbed it too much! Now we just wait and see (I am still at the glued to the 'bator stage LOL)

That temp is perfect. Sounds like you have "early birds" like my hen's! I'm going to log off for the night now, but I'll check in tomorrow morning and see how you're doing. Keep me posted and

Early just popped out 10:15 CT

, and four more have pips. It seems strong, is moving around playing rugby with it's sibs and cheeping like crazy, but it has not absorbed all of the yolk yet.
Everything I've read says to leave it and let it dry on it's own so that is what I am doing at moment

I am keeping a close eye on him and will update more in the morning.

Early is cheering on her hatchmates (come on out the world is fine!)

This one is answering the call!

Awww, cute! Early... lol I had a day 25 chick once, I named her Surprise! How is Early and it's yolk sac doing now? In my experience they do sometimes complete the absorption process afterwards. Depending on how far along the process is and how strong the chick is, many survive without issues. I dab a little antibiotic cream (one without painkiller in it) on the navel area to help prevent infection afterwards, which they are quite susceptible to.

We woke up to four fluff balls in the incubator and several pips. I haven't opened the incubator yet, but early seems to be doing great.

Thank you for all of your help I have a healthy hatch thanks to you! I will post updates later today and probably keep them all in the 'bator until tomorrow at least.
I feel much more confident now and can't wait until my Buff Brahmas are mature enough to breed, they are 16 weeks so hopefully by August they are established enough to hatch out a few!

Here are the little ones this morning

. They are incredibly active and I think I may quickly remove them tomorrow morning and let the other hatch without the traffic.

Oh that's wonderful! How many eggs did you set?
