Hatching - Day by Day - Chat thread!

I have a "wrong end pip!" So nervous! No hole just a "V" shaped crack. Ugh, I wish it would progress. The pip was sometime between last night at 11pm and this am at 5am. It's 9am and no further progress.

I had one do this too, last one. I* waited almost 24 hrs and just couldn't take it.
Lil thing was peeping but I could tell it was so tired.
I gently peel the shell which was very hard away bit by bit then peeled back the membrane.
Poor kid was tired but gave a huge kick and freed itself still attached to the egg.
So I put it back in the bator and waited another hour and it was free of the shell.
After another couple hours I put it in the brooder and it's fine today!
I know we aren't s'possed to help but I had to this time. use your spidey sense. hehe
good luck!

My eggs go into lockdown today. So excited but a little nervous, when I candled last night the air sacs were really small for 17 days. In a different thread I was told to not add water at lockdown because my humidity has been too high

I don't want the chicks to drowned but I also don't want them to stick to the shell, this is going to be a long 3 days.

Breach chick is finally up. Phew, hope it stays that way. Viktoriacl I had the same thinng happen with one of mine, very slow progress but its coming along. I just kept Slowly peeling the shell and membrane back and keeping it moist. It hatched a bit to early so it took a while for it to absorb what was left of cord. Good luck with your.

Cariporter what has your humidity been running? After lockdown they say, 40-50% day 1-17 and then 60-75% 18- hatch.

It's doing well! Still not standing as much of the others. It sits back a bit more but does get up and is very chirpy and moves around the brooder. I think it's going to be OK. I was attempting to wing sex them all and I noticed this one has a small wing and in general is lighter. I guess its just going to be the runt.

Oh sorry... I did end up helping it. It had broken through enough to get one leg out. It was probably close to 28 hrs. I peeled and waiting, cracked and waited....a bit more etc. I could finally see its belly was full and there were no full vessels so I helped it do all but the last kick. Poor thing was so tired. It was having a tough time and couldn't get its legs working but it finally stayed after I repositioned it a few times. Little thing makes me worry!

My humidity was 50-60% first 17 days I dropped it to about 25% till lockdown to try and get the air sacs a little smaller. Now it's between 40-50% because I had to add atleast a little water, without any it was 16% and that made me more nervous. Nothing has happened yet but we are headed into day 20 so we'll see. These last 3 days have to be the hardest, all you can do is stare at them and hope something happens.

If you take either a wet sponge or wet some rags and ring out you should be able to bring it up. I also keep a bowl of water under the tray for hatching to help keep it up. Personally I would get it up above 60.

Little backwards chick is doing great, you'd never know it had any troubles and umbilical is all absorbed! 4/9 hatched and 4 are pipped besides the 2 I stole from Red that were further along than her other 4 are also pipped. 2 are starting to zip so more soon.

I put a sponge in and got the humidity to 60%. We have entered day 21 and have a wiggling egg and I heard a little chirp so we might have a little action later today.
