Hi! one of my ducklings is hatching this very moment but had a very dry membrane so i picked away a bit of the shell and put some coconut oil on it and left it like that for him to hatch on his own, few hours later he made quite a large hole which he can get out of but i saw that theres some blood and vessels still but hes hatching on his own, do i need to intervine? hes breathing and making noises so i feel like hes fine but i dont know. i can make a picture if anyone needs it

I do still see some blood
The hole is pretty big and this does cause then to push out when they aren’t ready yet
Do you have a small cup or bowl that will fit in the bator
I would have it ready in case he pushed out
Most likely will still have yolk to absorb and if the yolk ruptures or dries up the baby bay not make it
Keep him in that egg as long as possible
Don’t remove anymore shell at all
If he does push out he may bleed where the belly cord attaches to the egg
You want to press gently make sure not touching any yolk just the cord to stop the bleeding
Then place bsby on a dry paper towel in the bowl or cup and let it curl up and finish absorbing
Right now that shell is protecting that yolk
He is better in the egg

thank you! i dont have a incubator since hes hatching under the mom, thats why i try my best to let the mom help and not intervene as much, the mom pushed him back under but the other baby already hatched and he keeps pecking him, will that be a issue?

If you see a dry membrane and take the shell off like that, you're causing more air to get in and dry it out further, you only need to add coconut oil to the visible membrane, no need to open it up
The trouble here, is that because these babies are under a broody, you cant monitor them as carefully and assisting isn't a great idea unless you really know what you're doing
I don't mean that in a mean way, I just don't want you to lose another baby
