Hatching duckling troubles

I was worried to take it back out there after my daughter brought it in. Should I put it in the incubator and then sneak it out if it finishes hatching?

Sorry we’ve only ever done this in the incubator. Lol. Never let the moms do it. And apparently we are bad at that.

I would put a little oil on the soft membrane and put in the incubator or back with Momma.:)

If you have an incubator that would be best I think. In my experience, ones like that end up getting squished and die if left under the mother.

Sorry, I was asleep. I would definitely put oil on the membrane - coconut oil would be what I would use, and it looks like you have it on hand, which is great. Then I would keep it in the incubator.

Do you happen to know what day it's on? Since you've had ducklings hatch, I assume it must be close to day 28.

So it’s kind of a crazy story that we aren’t sure what day it’s on. Lily got “injured” By the ganders who thought she was a goose. So we quarantined her in the night pen and run. She decided to set up housekeeping. Then her best friend Penny thought she needed company and started sitting on the same nest with her. Then we had another duck join them. Yes 3 ducks one nest. A couple days later 3rd duck moves over on a new nest. Then we are gone overnight and our duck sitter let’s everyone out for the whole day (they acted like they wanted to be out”). Then a 4th duck joins #3 on her eggs. Seriously, we have 2 sets of sister wives. From the last “locked them out all day” it has been 35 days but the last two ducks didn’t even start a nest until 29 days ago. (See my conundrum?) we had one hatch last Sunday, one on Wednesday and then this one this morning. We don’t want to rile anyone up by removing lily and penny who I’m sure are not on viable eggs. But we are sure at least the first duckling was from one of them. The second probably. And this third...who knows?

This little guy is in hurriedly set up incubator that is at the right temp, but I’m having trouble getting humidity up, but I did put coconut oil on 1/2 the inner membrane and 1/2 the outer. I didn’t want to completely impede if there was an air exchange coming across that layer.
