Hatching Eggs from Miss-Jayne - Mahonri & ChevygirlBeth

The one I am borrowing is also an LG w/turner, and I have been impressed. For a cheap bator, it stays very consistent. But my homemade incubator also keeps a pretty good temp and humidity stays at 40 without water! It cost about $20, and 30 minutes time.

I got 3 chicks out of this last batch-the other 4 never pipped. I need to keep the bator shut during the last 3 days!

Hope your hatch goes better!

Thanks! I may end up making a homemade bator eventually just to use for hatching.... I can't keep my cousin's incubator forever!

I'm going to be so sad if I don't get a couple ducks out of this hatch! I'm excited because I do have 5-6 chicken eggs from my cousin that look promising, 4-5 (the 5th one I'm not totally sure about) guineas, and hopefully a couple out of Miss_Jayne's eggs that look like they have a chance (I think the Jane with No Last Name one is the one that looked the best last night - I need to remember to look at the names closer!).

the duck eggs all look different than the chicken eggs and guinea eggs, so I'm not sure about them. I see some veins (mostly one large one) in some of the duck eggs, but not a whole lot else.

Regardless of the outcome, I am happy because I am learning a lot! This has been a lot of fun!

I am addicted to hatching already! I, also, have learned a lot. It is so amazing to put an egg in the incubator, and three weeks later you have a live baby chick! God is pretty amazing!

Exactly! I agree 100%

I love that my hubby has gotten hooked, too. He doesn't go check the temps as much as I do, but he does go in there fairly often and he questions me on what the temp & humidity is supposed to be.

Well tomorrow night I'm doing the day 18 thing. We will take out all of the turning trays but one... leave it in for the ducks and then put the rest in cartons after candling.

We'll have to see how I do.

I'm sorry to say that the Leghorn egg left the incubator this evening. I was seeing nothing in it. When I cracked it it was kind of scrambled.

I'm thinking at this point that any chicken eggs that don't have a pretty dark mass in them probably aren't going to hatch, right? Tomorrow is day 16...

Beth,
you are correct, no mass, no chick.

here's hoping you both get something nice!

edited to add: Beth, the guinea eggs you sent, 4 clear and 2 developing! that is good for not being sure and for shipped eggs! thank you so much. they are in the hatcher now, so we'll see how they go.

now i have to go put on my fancy scmancy oven mitts while timing eggs, slicing bread and utilizing a lovely pot holder....
