Hatching Eggs - Journal

We bought one in April from Amazon. We had two from TSC that we bought o we years ago. They were working but decided due to their age we might want to upgrade. We ended up getting a Maticoopx 30 incubator. It worked well. We are getting a dozen Barred Rock eggs some time this week and will be hatching for the second time in it. I believe it will be different because the humidity and heat has rocketed since mid May. I know in my past hatching experience sometimes it did not go well. It can be very disappointing. Hang in there.

I will look into that one if we try eggs again! We’re pretty much at our limit with ducks after these hatch (hopefully) and I get a few more females from a hatchery. Which is a bummer because it’s so fun, but their house is only so big lol
Goodluck with your new eggs!!

It was definitely a little disappointing but I remind myself that we couldn’t fit 9 more in the house anyways. I think I’ll be content with how it went if these 2 hatch. But I’m still trying to keep the hopes low

Day 22 & 23! Tomorrow I will begin the candling day and night to check for internal pip. I’m following an article on here about assisted call duck hatches. Yes, one egg is not a call duck. But I’m prioritizing the call duck egg since that is what I wanted to hatch. My egg was a beautiful fluke lol. I assume it will be fine and if not, lesson learned.

Edit: both are my priorities. What I meant is that I will be following the recommended humidity and what not for call ducks instead of regular ducks

If you think you need to assist the other egg, let me know!!

Thankyou! I definitely will. Going to try to look some more stuff up today. I’m still unsure how to tell if there’s shrink wrapping, which makes me nervous I won’t catch it in time during hatching

Shrink wrapping is actually a lot less common than people think. There should be pretty much no chance of it occurring until a baby pips / until you make a safety hole.
And, as long as you keep the humidity high and moisten the membrane during an assist, babies should be okay.
