Hatching Eggs - Journal

Pics
Could you get a candling photo of the pinkish mark on your call egg?

Also a photo of your other duck egg. Are they internally pipped?? Reapply the Vaseline when needed so that membrane doesn’t dry out. You could also put plastic wrap over the hole you made and poke a smaller safety hole through the wrap.

Very odd that they are this behind, but it’s not the worst thing. They still have a chance. Are you certain your temperature has been accurate?
I will try to get a photo in the morning!

The other egg has not internally pipped. I wrapped it in a paper towel and that seems to be working okay. I reapplied a light layer of Vaseline before bed just incase, but it looked okay. Might switch it to plastic wrap tomorrow

I’ve been using my own hygrometer that’s placed next to the eggs. There’s a chance it could be off though. I put a second one in there today of a different style, so we’ll see what that one thinks

Day 28 and 29

Here is a video of the call egg. I’m not seeing the pink mark yet today. Still no noise. The shadowing is much higher up on the egg than it was when this first started (see my other videos for comparison if needed)

Unfortunately I do believe my egg has officially passed. The membrane was still moist and malleable this morning, but there’s zero internal movement. Unless it’s in a very deep sleep, but I feel like would still be movement from it breathing.

Whether it’s from me opening the air cell wide open or not, I’m not sure

I’m getting a little antsy. Idk if I should make a little hole in the egg and see what’s going on or just continue to leave it.

The shadowing inside seems different than the past few days. You can see distinct line between the membrane and the shadowing. I’m not sure if this means it’s internally pipped or what.

Still no noise and no tapping. Which is the only thing holding me back

Does it still look like in the video you posted above?

If it hasn’t internally pipped, I don’t think the safety hole will help but I also don’t think it will hurt (someone more experienced may be able to tell you if I’m wrong). So I might go ahead and make a tiny safety hole with a screw or drill bit.

I’ve never hatched Call ducks so I don’t know anything about Calls specifically

I remember there was someone a little bit ago who had a Muscovy duck egg, and they made an internal pip for their baby.. opened up the air cell like a normal assist and then used tweezers to pinch a hole through the membrane over the baby’s bill.. just have to make sure you don’t hit veins.

I’m not sure if a safety hole before internal pip is fine or not.

Do you remember what made them decide to do that?

I’ve been considering doing that but obviously as a last ditch effort and I don’t know how to tell when it’s to that point yet

Their baby was wayyy overdue for an internal pip. Muscovy hatch day 35, and baby still hadn’t internally pipped by day 37… Their incubator settings were all good, so I’m really not sure why their baby had so much trouble.

Here is a video I just took

You can see the dark line about halfway down from the membrane and the shadowing above. The shadowing is almost to the top at this point (can see at the end when I put the egg completely vertical)

@KathiQuacks @Miss Lydia not sure if this video is helpful for y’all
