Any update? :pop
Actually was getting ready to make an update!!

When I got home yesterday it looked the same as when I left. So it had been over 24 hours in the same spot. I watched it for a while to see how it behaved. It wasn’t really peeping but its foot was constantly shaking. Not sure if the foot thing is concerning or not but it did scare me a bit.

I removed some of the shell (peeled it off the white membrane) to give it more room to try to move. Left it for a while and it was still shaking, trying to move its head but unable to.

So I assumed at this point it was probably stuck. It looked pretty malpositioned. Leg was over the head. One of the wings was bent upwards covering part of the head and foot. It would try to move and couldn’t.

I then got its head out and left it for a while again. It was still shaking/jerking a decent amount. Definitely scared me a bit.

It got half of its body out but the other foot was stuck in the egg so i peeled the shell off by it so the membranes would move easier.

Left it overnight and checked on it a few times. It was doing as best as you’d think. Crawling a bit and trying to get the egg off.

This morning about an hour ago I checked the inside of the shell and the yolk was completely absorbed thankfully. The cord was dried out but duck still was struggling to get it off so I detached it.

So that’s where we’re at. It’s hanging in there but I’m not getting my hopes up yet.

Not sure what to do now. Does it need sugar water? Do I need to do anything with the dried piece of umbilical still attached to the duckling?

It also has some clear fluid occasionally coming from the nostrils. Not sure what to make of that.

Hooray baby!! :celebrate

I’d be cautious messing with the cord in the future - I’ve read it can cause bleeding / infection if detached too early. All of my ducklings have removed the cord on their own and been okay.

Baby looks alert and is making good peeps. You don’t need to do anything right now but keep baby warm, dry, and let them rest (perfect time to cuddle with baby, actually!). The yolk should keep baby fed for about 2 days, but I like to get mine out, eating, and drinking after 1 day. Cord should fall off on it’s own.

I’m not sure about the fluid either.. I know it’s normal with ducklings / ducks who drank a lot of water / are too hot, but baby should be neither of those things.

Thankyou!

Will leave the cord alone in future instances!

I’ll keep an eye on the fluid. It hasn’t drank anything and the temp shouldddd be fine. So hopefully it’s nothing serious.

So far it’s still doing okay. Starting to attempt cleaning itself at times.

Thankyou both!! 🖤

And thanks for all the help these last few months. It’s been a wild ride! Still not out of the clear yet but we may have finally been successful!

One of our adult ducks has been sitting on a nest. So that’s next on the list lol

Update on Pickles eggs. She hatched one today! Hoping some more will be here tomorrow. 2 others that I could see had broken shells! But Pickle has been extra sassy the last day or two, so it’s hard to get a look lol
