Took down a temp fence keeping the youngest geese off new grass, they are like kids in a candy store right now

I'm to the point of crying. I've had a bad headache today, so didn't check the incubator, which usually isn't a problem, but it just so happened to spike to 122. All 90 eggs are dead! I had my turkeys' first eggs, the last hopes of pekin duck eggs from my now dead drake, an assortment of eggs from the chicken ladies, and of course paint silkies, hen's choice silkies from the same person, my buff D'Uccles and BCM's from Ayeupchuck! Ninety babies in there and all dead now.

I feel so selfish for not checking it this morning. I know they're "just eggs" but I had just pulled all of the infertiles, so there were two flats of definitely fertile eggs, most close to hatch, plus all of the now grey blobs that were going to be babies in the newly set eggs. I feel like a mass chick murderer.
Remember in the wild birds loose a TON of their chicks, eggs are fragile creatures. You make a lot more chickens live then would under normal circumstances. If you have a homemade cabinet incubator, think about getting a temp monitor that will make some noise if you get over (or under) a specific heat. There are a lot of ones for cooking that you can set to say if a dish goes over or under, I used on of them in my megabator until I was sure it was holding temps.

I have BBS silkies and OE atm. And the silkies are only laying 1 egg a day. No pure FCBM's until the new roos get bigger, a month or so and then decom time.
Question for ya'll...what do you use for hatching so you can tell the different breeds apart in the hatcher? I need to build something...
If you are going to keep them together afterwards, mark em. I put polish on thier heads until I can use feet and feathers to tell them apart. I had a broody that did not like the stuff on the girls feet and picked all the bands off and now I have 20 black chicks that are either ee, FCBM, OE or not so blue Iowa blues.
The come in black and blue? I may try some when those are more available. I can't do the white ones. White birds are hawk bait. Well, on my place they are. White and my beloved lavender. Hawk bait. Sigh.
I remember something being different about the black besides color. Do they have the same enzymes? I was worried about white chickens too but remember thinking I should get them anyway. We have 2 mother hawks that bring the family behind my house to learn to hunt. It sounds like an eagle convention here when they land.

Found a nearby avian vet who is very happy to help me with the Bresse. I'm going to have a conference call with her in a little bit. Denagard should be here tomorrow or Thurs. Going to set Blue slate eggs today and some marans from crfarm tomorrow!
