Okay everyone, I will be putting my first eggs into lockdown tomorrow evening. I read somewhere that putting them in cartons for the hatch helps those chicks with detached air cells. I candled last night--all of my chicks are laying sideways in a ring around the middle of the egg --big end and small end of each egg is fairly clear.

So tell me please oh - experienced - ones....lay them down normally on the soft cabinet liners or put them up in cartons??? I certainly don't want to kill any of them by accident.

:lau

sounds like my husband!
and he'd defend it by saying "it works now doesn't it???!!!!"

"I just have to back the screws out a bit" All of this while I have two diningroom tables at my mom's house that are solid wood, NOT composite! *sigh* I did finally convince him that all of his old bachelor hand me down furniture IS GOING to the garbage when we move and my stuff is going to the new house.

Does anyone know of anyone that would have an Spangled Old English Game Bantam Rooster for sale. I went out this morning and mine (named Bean) had passed. He was fine yesterday when my husband checked on him. I don't know what happened. It was raining yesterday and then the temp dropped to teen's last night. Feel bad about loosing him...
If anyone has one or knows of one, Please let me know
Billie Sue

It's so frustrating when you don't know what happened to them. So sorry.

I was wondering how you were. I was talking to DM last night and she said that their yard is a lake. I guess her chickens are so desperate for scratch and dust bathing that they took out a huge planter and even flew up into the large hanging baskets on the porch around the house. I felt bad but the imagery of chicken dusting in hanging baskets literally made me

I think mom got a little upset at first but them joined me in the laughing. You can always hitch a ride with them on up here to Oregon!

I've hauled in sand to the breeder pens and it has made a tremendous difference! No more mess in there. The large enclosed run on the layer coop is a totally different story. We can't haul in that much sand right now because of the weight. It is complete muck. Thank goodness the coop is big so they have somewhere dry. I can't leave them out in the main fenced yard because it is uncovered and there are so many hawks around. They'd be swimming out there anyway. Poor birds.

Ha! You may be joking about hitching a ride with your DM, but she'd better be on the lookout for stow-a-ways lol!

Have you heard anything else about the test results for your Bresse?

I set mine up in cartons. Much better hatch that way.
