Today started as a rather bad day for me. A week ago I hatched a Rhodebar rooster chick. My only one. Problem was it wasn't using one of its legs. I felt a knot on the leg joint. So I thought I would give it time and see. Nope, not using it. So I put him down this morning.

I had a juvie tolbunt polish rooster in with other juvies. I'm a complete believer now in raising crested breeds with crested breeds only. The other birds always pecked his crest out and I am assuming gave him some brain damage. I was going to put him down this morning too but he beat me to it. Found him dead in the coop this morning.

By far the worse for me was my Blue Silver Fox Doe. Skittish as heck. 3 weeks ago I came home to find she could not use her back legs. She was still eating and drinking. Was a lot more lovable now but couldn't be a bunny. I gave her time hoping she would get better but it never happened. So I put her down this morning too.

That by far was the worse morning for me.

Those of you waiting on the labor strike with the contingent from Iceland, they made (laid) two concessions today at the negotiating table. I'm expecting a full contract agreement shortly.

I had such a cool afternoon! Went up to SunnysideUp Micro-farms up in Brunswick to pick up my replacement BLRW eggs and, since I had brand-spanking new boots from TSC that had literally never been worn yet, Lloyd showed me around a bit. Wow! Just beautiful birds everywhere you looked. I'm not sure if I'm bummed or relieved that I had zero extra dollars on me -- I would've come home with a car full of chickens! It was so fun seeing what my coronations are going to grow into -- just stunning And I got lots of new ideas for housing and brooders and feeders, and it was just really really fun to talk chickens with someone for an hour

Only problem is, my "want" list just grew by four breeds!

So I put 2 of my CCL eggs and 8 of Bantam Chocolate Wyandotte eggs into lockdown. Both CCL have hatched. Both girls!!!!

3 of the wyandottes have hatched and the other 5 have pipped!!!

Did I mention I was sent 8 wyandotte eggs??? The same 8 that are in lockdown and pipped and hatching!!! Awesome eggs!!!!!!!!!!!

I have 6 eggs in lockdown currently and am so nervous.
but the ones under the broody are looking great!
I candled tonight and all 5 are moving!
I am kinda sold on the broody hen thing. I am so nervous about the incubated eggs, but the ones under the broody, I am not worried about at all.

Me too!!! It is so fun to watch a good broody mom with her chicks!!

Just so everyone knows, I put 28 choc wyandotte eggs in the bator yesterday. Everyone

that they do well, because I don't need that many chicks!!! So I will share!

How do I get on THAT list??? lol

Well once I get housing figured out tomorrow..... I will go pick up my Choc Wyandotte pair, BLRW Pair and Silver Penciled Wyandotte Bantam pair SUNDAY

Well, at least there's a lot of those choc wyandottes to go around, haha....
