G'morning!! Got another busy day ahead. Can't believe I was up so early this morning. I'm going to try to get some stuff done inside the house today. Got someone coming over to pick up 2 birds and someone else hopefully coming to get the 2 silkie roosters. Chick math at it's finest. Subtract 4, add 30. Love it.

Good morning, Madam. Hope all goes well.

Okay peeps, I need some info. What would cause a hen to lay an egg with a very pale yellow yolk??? I have one and only one out of the whole flock that does this. I need to know whether to get rid of her or if I can fix it. She gets the same food and treats as everyone else. Her yolks are just

Has she always done that? It sounds like she is sick, or not properly absorbing nutrients. I looked it up and saw that worms could cause it, and I know you just wormed them. If it is something she just started doing, then she probably is fighting off something, so is keeping nutrients for herself. If she has always done it, she probably just hoards nutrients for herself.

I see Susan caved and got 100 chicks??? Holy moly... that's funny

Oh goodness gracious... more stalking needed...lol

Me too!!! It is so fun to watch a good broody mom with her chicks!!

How do I get on THAT list??? lol
Well, at least there's a lot of those choc wyandottes to go around, haha....

Sorry about your morning, madamwlf, glad it got better...

Susan, how many more surprise chicks do you still have?

Well, really just 3. they are very pretty. The one with gold/copper around its neck, the one with silver around its neck, and there is one that I thought was lav orp at first because I did get some more lav orps from Nellie. It isn't. It is stunning to look at. The one with gold/copper looks to be a hedamora, but smooth coat. I don't know enough about them to think the rest may be. I just happened to see a pic on the hedemora thread that looks like the one I have. These mystery chickens (not chicks anymore), are very beautiful. If they were Hedemora, I would have to do some serious talking to hubby to get the keep them. I don't think that he would think having chickens needing AC would be an investment. LOL

I find scratch (with corn) tends to yellow up the yolks, as well as foraging. If they forage they all do, then maybe she's not eating the corn in scratch. Just a thought.

She's a young layer. Just started laying maybe the last month or so. I'll see how she does in the next month are so. She's such a pretty girl and I don't want to get rid of her.
