Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

My perfectly behaved puppy is no longer perfectly behaved.

He's never made an effort to catch the chickens, he has helped me herd them when I need to get one, but today he caught one.

My solo pullet chick from my November hatch. She was limp in his jaws, but he dropped her as soon as I told him to, and she waddled away. I picked her up and brought her into the house to check on her. Nothing seems broken but a few feathers....I put her in our portable dog pen in the garage for the night. She seems more stunned than anything. No blood at all.

She's never been alone before, should I add her hatch mate to keep her company, or leave her alone for the night? She's got food and water in the pen.

The cold wouldn't be so bad but the wind just makes it unbearable.

I know, right? walking into work today was miserable...wished I'd remembered a HAT. I'm leaving the light on in the coop...maybe it will help it not be too cold. it is hard not to put a heater out there. I know people say they will be okay but...BRRRRRRR. poor animals having to be out in this!

I had two others just like her from the same breeder, but they both got killed by a coon, so she's my pride and joy.

I am so excited. My dad flew down from Vermont today, he is staying at my grandparents tonight, then coming out to spend the day here. He always makes these super quick trips (he has a work conference on Thursday) but it will be sooo nice to see him. I really miss my family up in Vermont. Just can't convince my husband to move up there.

Tell Dad he is entitled to retire in Florida!!!! They are supposed to do that aren't they?

Oh, received my eggs from SwindleDana and DMRippy today! Despite good packing, the PO managed to break one of the birchen marans eggs from Swindle. How they managed, I'll never know. Thanks ladies! And thanks very, very much for the extras, Donna!!

So how cold is too cold for an egg to be hatchable after being exposed to? It was 32 degrees in the coop when I got home to retrieve the eggs and I was going to put a group of eggs in the incubator tonight. Should I bother with the ones from tonight?

I was the same here, until I posted an ad. I couldn't set any of my eggs today like I planned, because I have NONE of my own to set! Oh, wait, I do have turkey eggs, but no chickens, lol. I'm so glad you sent a bunch! I can't wait to see all those marans chicks!

I have girls that sleep outside. Their roost is well protected but still. It's cold out there.

has anyone here seen all white ameraucanas, are they rare? I can get a breeding pair for a good price but not sure if they are worth fooling with

If you need more you can hatch some from my Lavender pen

I don't know about rare, I don't see them much. White birds turn some people off. BBS is what you see the most.
