I was out getting wood pellets today for my stove at Lowe's I went looking for a heat light and found an acutal brooder light at Lowe's and for much less than there other heat bulbs! only $3.32!!!!!!!! I bought 2 wishing I had more to buy at least 10 and stock up!

I will be converting 2 bays in my barn, at least 2, into brooders for the chicks coming and hatching. they will be 8x12 so these will come in handy!
Lucky you. I need some stalls that big for all the chicks I have.

Well its -11 right now ..just got done checking on birds one last time...bought an extra allon of whole milk and heated it up...filled the stock pot with grower high protein crumbles and veggies...brought it down and fed all my cold babies! Stayed in the barn for 1/2 hr to make sure everyone ate lots Added another bag of bedding in almost every pen...the heater is on in barn making it 15 degrees right now...im happy with that! Supposed to be -28 tonight

Yeah, I just have to finish getting the material and get it built.. My husband was talking about converting one whole side for the chickens. I already have my blue marans in one section and have been for quite some time. I have a big barn but I have my oldie mares in there to along with our youngest filly who is sharing a stall with her favorite oldie surrogate mom. Although miss oldie is not very thrilled with the company, she puts up with her....

I sold some eggs on ebay and the winner ended up being a lady that lives down the road. I met her yesterday and gave her the eggs. Had the cutest yorkies in the truck with her. Anyway i missed a call from her yesterday. She wanted to know if I would be interested in a yorkie puppy for some chicks!!! IF my hubby will let me....
MINE!

DH gave the go ahead on a new hatcher this weekend. So we have on order a 5 drawer version of the hatcher below. We can use it for incubating goose eggs and just hand turn them daily. I have turn the goose eggs now, so its not a big deal. These are made here in FL by a fellow BYC'r, info is below for anyone interested.

Love it!

By the way, did the ducklings ever hatch?
oh wow Oh, I missed alot I bet DH's dad can tell us a bunch of ways to get stuff to grow. He is a 90 y.o 3rd generation farmer, DH is a 4th generation farmer, the whole, well most of the reason we moved from California to Indiana is to take care of mom and dad and be able to keep them living independently on the farm im the Spring Summer and Fall, in the Winter they Vacation at our house.lol and keep shoving dad up on that tractor every Spring and setting him loose in the fields

Well we pretty much blew it yesterday when we didn't go with mom the ER in the ambulance to the hospital yesterday. We thought she was "faking it" to get a vacation from taking care of dad. When we called the hospital at noon they said she was stable and not to rush down. By the time we mosyed on down to the ER after stopping to buy chicken food we get to the ER to find out she had a massive stroke.

they didn't even tell her DR they told him she was having trouble slurring her her speach. not that she was STILL having a stroke and he had to order blood thinners. She tried to tell us that in the ER that they had done NOTHING and that she was dying and needed heparin. We of course told her she was not dying and she would be fine, before we knew what happened. She us alive and about to communicate with us. That is the best thing that her DR said was "miracleous" and that she might recover fully.

CPL!!! Im so sorry about your momma! I hope she remains miraculous and gets the heck out of there!

Sad note for me...its been -20 s at night for a while with still more ahead...my 5 yr old buff orp Princess passed last night...Makes me feel like a horrible chicken keeper! The heaters went on and Ill be cooking up a huge pot of warm stew for them tonight before bed!

Im going to the feed store to pit 6-7 more bags of shavings in the pens for extra warmth!

My CCLs are really starting to lay. 4 eggs from that pen today and 2 have come to size. All test eggs are veining nicely. Very soon they'll be able to earn their keep! Here's a few pics for when I start swapping. The roo is missing some feathers off of his back. He valiantly fought with a hawk and saved 5 of 6 of his girls. The pen is now covered.

LOVE your cockerel! He looks about as good as any one I've seen yet!

I had 2 that almost went to freezer camp. Instead they opted for some where tropical around 350 degrees
That made me laugh!

we CPL and one other person paypal. Can these folks please send me paypal addresses again? I thought I had the second person's pp address but can't find it now! I never had CPL's, lol.

I got home from work and collected 8 eggs, 4 German New Hampshires and 4 Icelandic....all freezing cold, two actually split open.....high today was 13 F....when I went to work it was 0...and is forecast to be the same tonight. I put Vaseline on the New Hampshire cockerel's comb last night....first time ever doing this and his comb looked fine tonight at lock-up so maybe he'll keep all his points. Can we just skip February and get on to March and some warmer weather?!
I second that motion!

Thanks BM6. He's GFF, I ordered 3 and got lucky with 1 being pretty good (for US stock). Working on the girls now and have a few GFF new line girls and a boy to see how they grow out. Haven't joined the CCL club but keep up on the thread. Hate to post him over there as there are some who get very harsh with their judgements.

Gallon of milk in a large stock pot...warm up until very warm not tongue burning...add grower crumbles or a high protein feed...let it soak up unil it becomes like oatmeal..stir in veggies...walla awesome meal just prior to bed :D they never finish it all so i take the big container back to use the next night...im like their maid serving the pens a few scoops at a time...I keep serving until they stop eating lol

BM6 ----- yes ducklings are now hatch! lol I just keep setting eggs at this point figuring I will eventually get to ship what is hatching and not grow it out.
