Good morning, all!
https://www.onekingslane.com/invite/heatherdalton3 Normally I don't post this sort of thing but if you go to the link above they're giving a $15 credit to the store and they have a shop right now called charm on the farm that has some REALLY perfect chicken decor and kitchen stuff!
Thank you! I wish I would have checked it out last night. They sold out of the cutest carved rooster!
was you build? What size? DH worked on a new pen this weekend too. It would be finished but nobody had 6' rolls of wire in stock.
My hubby did that with a NAIL gun just hit the edge of his finger..... blood dripping all over my clean floors too LOL..... He also fell through the ceiling when I was 9 1/2 months preg. His pelvic bone cut his urethra. He had blood coming out places men should not bleed out of. He was fine it healed on its own. SO Don't fall through anything..... :lau My hubby is a klutz like I have never seen before. Remember it is all for the CHICKENS.... more pens, more chickens..... PUSH THROUGH THE PAIN. The chickens NEED YOU! Hope it is not hurting TOO bad. Those things hurt worse the next day. :hugs You will post pics right?
My dad ALWAYS has some type of injury. He's an amazing carpenter. We bought DH's great-grandmother's century-old house and completely gutted and rebuilt the interior. My house is full of my dad's beautiful cypress woodwork. We were constantly going behind him and cleaning up blood spots because he was always working with an injury. He isn't clumsy, but he has bees for brains. He only has one speed...wide open. Not good when you're working with saws. I don't know how he still has all his fingers!
Did that once with a regular staple gun when I was like 14. Could not imagine doing it with an airgun. I remember I was to afraid to tell my mother so I pried it out with a screwdriver just enough so that I could pull it out with a pair of pliers.
Sounds like a theme this morning. Ouch!
I couldn't understand why my chicks were making so much noise a couple of hours ago.

It was dark in their room and they should have been asleep. Turns out, my NYD chicks WERE asleep. but the 3 just hatched blue Orps were making all the racket!

:frow G'morning all!!! :fl I put my first 3 Black Bresse eggs into lockdown last night. Come on little chickies!!!!
Exciting! I hope they all hatch for you!

So the baby chick I hatched out that couldn’t stand (slipped Achilles tendon) died yesterday. I was able to get water into it, but not get it to eat. I think it died of starvation. I tried to stabilize the leg with several different methods but only figured out the best way at the end, but by then I think it was too late. It was already too weak.

So if anyone else has this issue, I figured out the best way was to put a tiny ½ sphere of foam padding on either side of the joint (after manually moving the Achilles tendon into the right location) and securing it to the joint with a cut-up cloth bandaid that had more coverage on the back of the hock and only a tiny amount across the front. Then I knit a tiny support out of yarn with 6 multiple yarn cords coming up around the back…under and over the wings and behind the legs to tie above the chick with a string running up to a stick across the top of the brooder so that it was lifted up enough to be able to peck at the food on the ground and the water.

Yeah, okay, maybe I should have culled. But I am a wimp. I don’t even know what gender this chick was…I’m trying hard to believe it was a boy and would have had to be eaten eventually anyway…

I went to go pick up a blue barnevelder project cockerel yesterday and the lady had some chicks she’d just hatched out and I bought one of them to assuage my sad. It is a light Sussex and I’ve been wanting to try some Sussex sex-linked chicks forever. Now I am wishing I’d gotten a couple. I’m so bad. Like I need another chick with all the ones I have coming from you guys! And the ones in my incubator! But it’s fitting in just fine with my current chicks…one thing I love about my Dorkings and Barnevelders is that they don’t tend to pick on weaker/younger chickens. So I have multiple-aged chicks all snuggled up together. So cool.

I wasn’t able to swap last night because the husband wanted a “quality night” with no computer or knitting or egg decorating so I missed all of the good Sunday swaps again. Dang husband. But I guess I should be thrilled that he still wants my attention after 20 years.

My Broody hen should be hatching out her chicks in the next few days. So excited!!!

I seriously want spring to arrive. So many plans for spring.

three infamous staple that was thru my finger...in the back side out the fingernail. its the only PiC I got, I freaked and pulled it out immediately...should have taken a pic for memories!

That is making my skin crawl ..... ohhhhhhhhhh yuck...... ouch......

You need some steel fingered gloves.

Yeah!! Warming up for the next 3 days and then back into the teens on Friday...... dang it!

Just getting to 26 here. I am not even going to change out the water nipples. Going to be 38 that day and 26 at night and then in the 40's the next day. Probably will not be cold enough to freeze the water.

y'all who have Turkeys, do y'all sell the chicks? I don't wanna buy from a hatchery..and can't hatch them in my small Bater...pm me with prices and ship info...we are weaning to get at a min 4 here soon.

Trying not to freak out. Just went to candle and the bator was at 99 on the top shelf. Opened it to candle and now its at 93 and hasn't come up. :/ I have over 100 viable chicks in there right now and just set another 40.

I saw that this is handled, but I accidently had my bator drop to 95 for a week. Everything hatched just ate and a wee bit sticky. Cool seems better then hot.

Marans experts:  I have three of my NYDH marans from crfarms that are obviously roos.  One is even crowing.  Can I assume that they are all obvious by now or do I need to worry about sneaky late-developers?  I have never had single-comb birds other than my Favs.

They can still be in there. Some are fast some are slow. Some of the girls get comb too. But does no pink up.

Porters while technically a hatchery is where a lot of the heritage turkeys originate from. Don't think they sell 4 chicks. Reese might be your best bet I know she ships poults.
