Well, then, I guess I will just have to send you some eggs when they start laying to check the fertility for me.

I was going to look around for you, but we got side-tracked by buying the hens. And, of course, I had to buy a cage to haul them home in first. Then I thought we needed to get home before my kids talked me into buying something else!

Ok I am helping a SFH from bhep hatch as it was too big to move around to zip and hatch. I realised as i was helping him that where the wing attaches to the body there is a large air bubble UNDER HIS SKIN!!! Size of 2 peas. You can see blood vessels and feathers coming out of the skin but there is a big air bubble (at least is looks like air) just under a thin almost clear layer of skin. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Is there anything i can do for him?

Need ideas, went to lockdown the incubator of quail and they are hatching....the problem is I am in PA right in the path of this storm and electric company is saying power could be out for 7 days.....how will I keep baby quail warm.....
I thought about running and getting a bunch of those hand warming packs, would this work ???

How are you going to keep yourselves warm? If you are using wood burning stoves you could heat bricks or rocks and use them as a heat source inside the brooder just make sure the chicks cant touch them and if you keep it well covered should retain the heat fairly well. I personally would use my oven, put the bricks on the bottom shelve and chicks on the top if you have some sort of small container that fits and protects them. I say the oven because it is so well insulated it should hold the heat and also eliminate any drafts from chilling the chicks. Wish you the best of luck and hopefully your power isn't out to long. This storm must not realize what an inconvenience it is for us chicken people, this is the quietest the swap has ever been!

wingstone

i would try getting to the store and getting a battery pack for a pc and connecting heating pad,or whatever ur using to keep them warm....
