Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

We just finished putting in posts for the bresse pasture. Te eating birds will have 1.5 acres and the breeders will have .3 acres. That will be for 70 bresse and 12 turkeys at most! :gig we like to spoil our food in a good way!

Here's a full bator, with half of the eggs from swappers on this thread. If not for this thread, and the wonderfully generous swappers, I wouldn't know what cream leg bars, Basques, Hedemoras, Bresses, etc., are. Hoping for a great hatch. There are four sets of family and friends anxious for the hatch date, March 7th. If they hatch, there will be CLs, Basques, lav Ams, Silkies, and four excited new owners (plus me of course). Although this bator is for 24 eggs, I managed to sneak in a couple extras due to the smaller Silkies and CL eggs.

Found my favorite SFH dead. The one that is my avatar.

So Sorry!

Okay, what makes a fresh shipped egg start weeping/leaking? I've had this twice now. Eggs look great when unpacked, but after a few hours at room temp, one is leaking. The eggs I got today looked great, but my favorite one was leaking after about eight hours. :(. Anything I can do to prevent it? When the boxes arrive, I unpack and set the eggs wide end up in egg cartons, leaving them open. Depending on condition, 12-24 hours later they go in the incubator. Again, depending on condition, they may be no turning for a day or so, but of course a leaky egg doesn't get so far.

Today's lost egg was lovely. Big dusky egg with a few speckles. :(

I found this when they get very cold (shrink) and then warm up (expand). A couple of papa's were like this when the carrier left them out on the porch

I have had that too, I am thinking maybe they get too cold along the way???

Never seen that except in an egg that got froze but not all the way or in rotten eggs. I wonder if it could just be sweating as it adjusted to a warmer temp?
