What is a McLean hen? McDonald's style chicken?Good Morning/afternoon guys!
I just received 4 more McLean hens this morning. Well my DH did. Mean little buggers they are.
How is everyone doing this morning?
Your killing me. I just bought an incubator from mr dickey. Now I want this.thank you, he is a pure craftsman in every since of the word. I highly recommend, we measured our redwoods and the goose eggs and he designed this to fit as many as possible as a dedicated hatcher for the geese. We will use it as an incubator and hand turn during the heaviest laying months. He does 2 drawer hatchers that can sit on top of the dickey and gqf cabinets all nice and neat too. http://www.hatchcraftincubators.com/ he is here on BYC also HatchCraft
I'm on my fifth I believe. One brinsea, 1 foam, 1 mini fridge, 1 chest and now a dickey cabinet on the way.I've done it now. I ordered a second incubator.
My hubby gave me money for it. Not sure why since he wants me to stop hatching. I don't ask those ? ThoughIt is only the beginning. I have 3 and am seriously considering a cabinet now. My poor hubby...
Now I think I need thoseThey all look like SFH to me.That is one of the wonderful things about them - they come in SOOO many beautiful colors! Here's a couple of mine:![]()

I guess I got lucky. I have one pig and she and the chickies are friends. It's hillarious to watch the chickens peck her on the nose so they can eat her food. Then again I raised her by herself with the chicks. She has an amazing temperament. I have fed her chickens that have been culled for one issue or another. She actually noses it a couple times to make sure it's dead. Won't tear into a live or freshly dead chicken. Has to be coldSad today. I let my RIR's out ot range yesterday. They decided to investigate the pig pen. The pigs caught and ate one of them. I saw the pigs chasing them because we were building a transport pen to take them to butcher. I went running (not that I know what I could have done), but it was too late by the time I got there. The others escaped. These were by far my favorite chicks.

For those of you shopping for ACV, make SURE it has not been pasteruised. TJ's was selling vinigar wiht mother, and at some point in teh last year they started pastursing it, lable stayed the same, but dosnt work anymore. Sent DH to pick it up, he said it was, I told him he was on crack, he read me the lable. I don't know how they can say with mother and then nuke it.Thank you all for the responses on my rooster. There have been so many posts since then that I'm not going to try to go back and quote.
I don't have Denagard and looks like the only place to get it is mail order, so I may pick some up for the next time I need it.
I do have Oxine and I think we have a cool mist vaporizer, so I'll look into getting that set up for a while when I put him back in the coop. I think it would benefit all the birds in there. My other birds in the same coop (all sectioned off, but same airspace) don't seem to have any symptoms, although sometimes I think my blue Orp roo has it, but turns out he is just growling at me!
I do use ACV in the water when I fill them, not sure if DH or DS put it in every time when they fill them though, and they do the filling most of the time.![]()
Mr. Freeze, my roo, is doing much, much better today. I have given him the Vet Rx 3 times now and sprayed some colloidal silver on his face/nostrils and in his mouth last night. He is still a little raspy, but much improved. I am hopeful that he will be back out in the coop again soon.
Mr heinze should send notices, if you are worries PM him.Ok, when do we find out who to send eggs to for the easter swap? I have turkeys so I will need to send them the beginning of next week.....
I know you ahve already replied, but I would make DH in charge of food when they come. He is checking wiht them anyway to set stuff up, he can have the headake. And might cut down on the visits tooCompletely off topic but I cant go to sleep tonight because I'm fuming mad. and the funny part was that I didn't even know it before I went to bed, but it kinda bubbled up while I was trying to count sheep.
there are these friends we have over on occasion. known them for 20 years. she's okay...a bit intense but okay. the guy is a really nice big old bear of a nice guy to everyone except me.
for some reason we rub each other the wrong way. which is weird because I get along with EVERYONE. but he's a fault finder. and it is starting to really hit a nerve.
He's a big guy and his wife is skinny and he's always on a diet. my husband invited them over to play in this WW2 game, Axis & Alies? too intense for me. too many rules to remember. so I stay out of it. but I need to feed the group and husband suggests pizza but knowing this guy is on a strict diet, I try for something healthier. it was cold out...how about soup? I made a light chicken corn soup with a bit of a kick (from a can of rotel) & with lowfat coconut milk and fat free chicken broth. and no carbs except for the corn...no noodles or anything.
So he tells me He cant eat it, that it isn't heathy enough. He finally condecended enough to try some when I showed him the calorie content on some of the ingredients. but his wife won't eat it because she has acid reflux...no biggie I made her some eggs. he cant have eggs because he's allergic.
When someone cooks for you and is TRYING to accomodate your excentricities you are going to make them feel they are not doing a goodenough job? They do this all the time.
This was not EVEN the first time. DH keeps inviting them over and they keep doing this. I am tired of it. that soup was GOOD. and doing a math on the base without the chicken and corn it was about 80 calories for a heathy 2-cup serving
So he can kiss my asparagus.
Huzzah! I know you were getting a bit of cabin feaver, hopefully this helps.G'morning all!!! Looks like DH might be home earlier then previously thought.
Yeah is an understatement! I'll be glad to have another human in the house.![]()
We started doing this recently, but hasnt grown out yet, i'm excited to see it and good luck!Publix carries it. Braggs brand and you have to go the isle with the vinegar and oils then the ORGANIC area of that isle.
