Oddly enough, poults sell here, no matter the breed(s). Chickens, on the other hand, have to be pure, a blue egg layer, a production layer or free, lol.

Good Morning, Happy Chicken People!

We have some Royal Palm x Bourbon Red turkeys, as well as some pures. While both of the pures are gorgeous birds, the cross is magnificent. I can't get good pics of them, but they are gorgeous. And this batch, at least, were sexable by color when young. The males were much darker. They didn't carry the pattern of either breed. I've had them mistaken for Sweetgrass Turkeys.

And my Royal Palms have always been as big or bigger than the Bourbon Reds. (Red bourbon? Never seen it written that way except in this thread!?)

Our Old Man is a BR named Bob. He'll be eight this summer. People who have visited invariable ask about him. He's the reason we tried so hard and retested during our MG quarantine last fall, trying to save the turkeys! If Bob wasn't here, we would have put the turkeys down with the chickens and started completely over. But we did manage to have all the turkeys test clean, so saved them. All because of Good Ole Bob!

so anyway...back to my question....has anyone ever had a bird zip backwards? Seems to be having trouble.

If you mean on the wrong end, I have had it happen twice with call ducks and once with a chick. All 3 survived. I may have helped them a little. edited: I see, you mean to the left. I don't see why it would matter, as long as the chick keeps zipping that way.

never had on zip left and not right, is it progressing? Have the other eggs hatched? if you can candle without risking more eggs by opening thebator it would be worth the look

WHILE I was away on vacation, my husband added SLW eggs to my incubator, which I was eternally grateful to him for. When I got home I realized that he had set them upside-down. I tossed one that had a blood ring, a second one hatched out a very weak chick and the third looks to have internally pipped. Its not always a death warrant.
