I don't vaccinate and I do not do any type of antibiotics. I did the antibiotics for sick birds when we first got started because the vet said to. Had several necrcropys done and they all came back to over abundance of bacteria infections- they university of Tn told me never under any circumstance to give poultry antibiotics- since then the antibiotic fed birds have either died or been culled. We only give vitamins, probiotics and Apple Cider Vinegar. I am concerned that the vaccinations are part of the problems that some poultry have. I am trying to go completely organic and all natural with our farm because I have seen so many good things from all natural.Does anyone vaccinate the birds they hatch? Everything I'm finding tells me the Marek's vac needs to be discarded after one use. I believe I read an article recently that explained how to only activate a portion of the bottle at a time instead of the whole thing but can't seem to locate it. Any help is appreciated.![]()
Same here. All the birds I had issues with were vaccinated and those were the ones that developed Marecks syptoms and had to be put down. Funny thing is those were all GFF birds too.nope no vaccinations here either, it can turn bad for the other birds you have who werent. (like being a carrier who doesnt show signs ect) Actually the only birds I ever had trouble with were vaccinated at hatch, go figure
6-8" along with sleet, here.Morning all.![]()
So what are the predictions aka hypes for the snow for everyone? Sorry to hear so many are left with receiving no swaps this spring from a past swapper. Totally stinks all the way around for sure.
Our farm is named what it is because of all of the oak trees, and with the oaks comes the moss. Hubby is also planting cypress this year.
Not arguing that animals have a right to live, because they do. However 6' and up gators here pose a threat to our dogs, children and our farm, and my childs life is worth more than the gator. They are not allowed to stay for long.
Currently on the hunt for:
- CL or CCL cockeral (we have a POL pullet and no roo for her)
- Choc Bantam Orp Cockeral (again a single pullet and no roo)

off topic: please forgive.
So I am pretty darn depressed.
I was asked to do a furniture inventory of the building which I initially argued against because I didn’t really see the value-added. And it was going to take quite a bit of time. But the boss insisted and I rolled up my sleeves.
Then, after contemplating it, I thought why don’t I incorporate the use of intelligent dynamic furniture blocks so that when I am done, I can extract the data to a spreadsheet whenever needed and it would be automatically updatable at any time in the future. And I could also extract just the data for certain rooms so that when we go in to do a room reconfiguration we would know exactly what we had and what we needed and could craft a concise list of exactly what we needed to buy or bring up from the warehouse to do the work.
I crafted some intelligent blocks and showed the boss the potential. He hadn’t even known it was possible and He loved it.
And then with his next breath he asked me to write a read-me file so that if they got rid of me that a novice could still operate the blocks and extract the data.

Isn't that the truth. My CL roo was put down due to legs issues and I have a CL hen I need to put down for the same thing. I believe shipping stresses them and sort of triggers the disease symptoms through the vaccine.Yes, I'm going through some things with GFF birds now and am researching. I haven't approached it with Jenny yet and don't even know if she'd do anything about it at this point. After all its a live guarantee for 3 days, not a healthy bird guarantee.
watch the chemicals in that bedding. The geese do eat some of what they are bedded on and the pine pelleted bedding is better to have them on. if you are worried about dust try old towels, however they have to be washed lol
No, I've always gotten what I ordered. Who got the wrong chicks?Bhep and I were talking about GFF this morning. I wonder if you guys have ever had them send you a chick that was the wrong breed?
