thanks all, we have a favorite phrase here............. go big or go home lol. So these geese fit the bill perfectly. Is also why we have the Brahmas and collecting more Orps. Hubby loves the big round birds. Very excited because the goose laid an egg yesterday too! Per the breeder she hadnt laid there yet, so this is egg one for this year.
I LOVE your geese....and your photography is great. all we have here is brown, so it is so nice to see green.
Pysankigirl, how long have the other eggs been in there?
they are on day 10 I think. I hope they can take a day or two of not turning also.

Finally got internet back. We had lost it for a while for some reason. Not having power is very civilized with a generator and 2 wood stoves. We are watching x-men and playing board games. and checking on the incubator alot. I use a wash cloth soaked in hot water to provide the humidity and have little trouble getting such a small incubator back up to humidity again so I guess I could just hand turn those eggs a couple of times a day if you guys think it is important. I want to build an incubator with those integrated gloves you see in science labs.

other than that, just chillin' with my peeps (LOL...I crack myself up)

Wilco are a little too corporate and want us to regulate the smaller local feed stores that are attending and they wouldn't be donating anything large so we told them no.

Eugene Backyard Farmer is doing the fall swap! :)

Got any processors? I know people are always looking for processors.... There's a farm in Eugene that has a mobile processing unit - not sure its up and running yet though...

ok for those stuck with brown and cold and snow

last night launch of the shuttle program ever

we live roughly 3 miles from the space center gates and the launch pads are due east of our front door so always made for good pictures

and some garden and flower pictures

Morning all. So much for wishful thinking. 6" of snow so far. Got all the pens cleared off this morning and the pup was out romping in the snow. Not really all that cold outside. So as long as we keep power my biggest problem will be keeping the pens cleared off.

On the upside, it's melting already

Hopefully that was our last spate of real snow for the year!

Incubating question: What do you do if one egg, that looked fine on day 18, has two tiny weeping spots on day 20 (like pinkish bubbles)?
There is no smell coming from the bator...but is it worth opening it up and checking it? Or just wait until hopefully others hatch? The temps and humidity are perfect...I would hate to ruin it all, but at the same time the idea of an exploding egg worries me. This egg is the only one that developed at all from it's shipment and all of the eggs were somewhat porous.

I liked the ziploc baggie idea...

I just see a basket of adorable chicks. Who cares about the breeds? They are all adorable!!!!

Gotta admit, I love big birds too, the bigger the better. Your geese are beautiful!!!

I have seasonal eczema and I have to sleep with glove on after I slather my hands with creams and steroids. So far I have avoided a shot this year. It has to do with the lower humidity in the winter and if you remember we have GAS and I will never have GAS again.... to heat that is

They are harder to find than you think. The last pair I bought was nylon and they are so HOT. I bought 12 pair for under $20 and since they can cost about $5-6 each at chain stores.... seem logical.

The chicken related part is I have to wear plastic gloves for most chicken things too. Everything either drys my hands out or cuts them.... since my skin is so thin right now.

Is SPRING here YET????????

Donna, I'm a nutrition nut :) That said -- B vitamins. Lots and lots of B vitamins. A good multi B (the kind you buy at GNC, not Walgreen's) twice a day plus extra B2 and B6 twice a day. If it doesn't make a difference within a month, I'll eat my hat

I had eczema when I was younger, that's how I got rid of it. When I eat horribly for a while and start getting stressed out, it starts coming back. I up the B vitamins and stop being a schlump about what I'm eating, it goes away again. I can't promise yours will go away entirely, but I can pretty well promise it will get better!

It should be okay as long as it's only a day or two, I think. Anyone else have input?

Oh, pretty! Thanks for sharing!

It may be more like your PO might be keeping them if they aren't getting boxes. I've never had a problem getting mine and I usually order 6 boxes/25 each.
we can get flat rate boxes, but the ones we want are not available except in small.

Go to usps.com and you can order shipping supplies. If you dont want flat rate boxes i order #4 #7 and shoebox boxes they are priority boxes. They will mail them to your house. Even the post offices have to order through the same site to get boxes.
