I'm trying to make a window for NPIP testing, so I have to have all my birds at 16 weeks or better for that. That means I can take ready-to-mail-now eggs, or eggs for late summer/early fall, but nothing in between. And I'm TRYING to be good and stick to my list. It's hard, with all you enablers!

What is the window for NOW eggs?  I have one more swap before yours so It might be the first of next week.... is that OK?

That's well in the window. I accounted for you! I'd just like to get as many as possible in this month to finish hatching everything by mid-April-ish. That'll put them all at 16 weeks mid-August-ish for testing. Most of my swaps are with KL, since we both have an Orpington fetish, and she's graciously agreed to put me on the bottom of her list to send to. That means all you folk who claimed after me moved up a notch! She'll put me back up after my NPIP comes through.

But I have to spend four months in the summer without hatching a thing. Horrors!

SusanRenee is cleared to swap again!

BM6, a Nikon D60 with lots of various lenses. I can pull the lenses and list my favorites if you want.
Well your photos are gorgeous! now I want an orange, peach and green sweater for spring...in the colors of your last four photos.
And I'm so looking forward to the warmth but not the mud.
I hate mud...hate it. we have 4 dogs...3 of them huge and they bring in ALL the mud. I am surprised there is any left outside.
So we lost power. We have a generator that covers most things but not the heat. We installed a brand new wood stove, just finished last month, but neglected to get any wood

Oh, NO!!! thank goodess it isn't too cold out. the way the water is pouring off our roof, I think all 8 inches are going to melt before tonight, here! wrap up in some down comforters and I hope your power comes on soon!
Yeah, i am aware of all the other requirements, was fAirly certain about the red comb, but went to double check and couldn't find the answer

so thanks.

I have been busy planting but trees Thea last two days and dealing with a strep throat outbreak in the house. One person gets feeling better, and another person falls victim. I'd rather us all get sick together so I don't have to worry about antibiotic resistance and reoccurring infections.
As for the trees, I planted a almond tree, two chestnuts, 2 hazelnuts, 2 pecans... Also four bush cherries and one cherry tree.

my back hurts
We are planting nut trees this year, too!!! cant wait for them to grow up but they say the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. the second best time is today!
we plant blueberries down here in nothing but mulch, or more precisely pine bark nuggets and then give them a good fertilizer, and per the master gardener who told me to plant this way they perform very well. She said to avoid having them too near sidewalks or the pool deck as the cement messes with them causing poor growth and poor fruit.
Blueberries like the soil to be lightly acidic. We have them growing wild around here but the berries never ripen...I think because they are in too much shade I think they do like drainage. if I were you I'd probably plant them in a raised bed on top of the clay. we have had great luck with raised beds and we have that clay as well. they say to mix in peat moss but in my opinion that just makes a hole in the non-absorbent clay full of absorbentstuff and things run a fine line between drowning and baking.

I was told by our NPIP person that hatching your own eggs from birds you are having tested is fine. you might want to check with them.

Hey everybody! 1 week until I start my trip!! Looks like I am going to be moving ALOT of chickens around this trip! I hope the weather clears up for this trip!! OK could everyone I am meeting send my your phone number and address where I am meeting you. I will call and let you know when I should be to you based off my GPS. I am sleeping in my truck so should get further each day then I originally thought. Please label carriers with BYC name of person receiving. I am worried I will get something mixed up! Here is a pic of my truck, so if we are meeting you can find me!

Older chicks will be in the bed, I will have some room in the cab for youngsters, but I travel with three border collies so space will be limited! I can't wait to meet everyone!

My hatch is done. The incubator is cleaned and off. I promised my Mr that I'd turn it off for a while. (He doesn't realize that I've claimed chicks instead of eggs!

I can't seem to get a pair with the autosexing breeds! I've got a solo girl legbar, and now 2 Rhodebar boys.

Oh well. Together they'll still make sexlink EEs.

My hatch rate on shipped eggs for this batch ended up being 30%. My hatch rate on my eggs was 100%, so I think a combination of shipping, weather and incubator malfunction may have done them in.

I now have a hatcher, so that should make things go smoother. My farm innovators tabletop does great during incubation, but has a hard time holding temps once they start hatching. I'm gonna hatch in my new-to-me Roll-X. I cleaned it up and it works great!

I always enjoy your random thoughts

Maybe you can find something at the wool festival?
Thanks!

My hatch rate on shipped eggs is alot lower than that unfortunately. so far only 1 in 14. so ...um...7%? LOL...but some of that is the weather when they were shipped, I think.

Aruacana and silkie eggs from ray_n_deb are at day 20 of incubating. So far, one araucana has externally pipped and I hear chirping!
