Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

everyone on this thread was given a wild card swap in February, to give away to another person.
example: I was given a wildcard swap, and gave it to spoiledchicken...a wildcard swap is a wildcard you can use if you exceed your 7 swap limit for the week, if you have one.
Hope that clarifies it some for you!

You get 7 swaps every week once you have used all of those swaps you can not swap again until the next week. Sunday starts a new week. If you have a Wild Card Swap you may use it any week you want to go over your 7 swaps. The Wild Cards are good for any week you choose to use them and have already used you 7 swaps for that week. I hope that made sense...

Thanks! I sure hope its a pullet. I really thought all but one pullet had died, leaving me with a bunch of cockerels. I was relieved to see a second pullet, so a third would thrill me! I think I am going to grow out the cockerels anyway, since they have a lot lighter color than I hoped, I may have to look for some darker buffs to breed with. What would I use to improve color? A rooster with smutty black in his tail?

I'm so sorry everyone had a THURSDAY. Around here we don't plan anything for Thursdays because inevitably the world falls apart and nothing goes as it should. We usually do family pizza and a movie night on Thursdays - just so I won't have to attempt to cook - I'm a really good cook, but odds are good that something will interrupt the cooking process on Thursdays.

Well some days just stink - Literally - Was candeling eggs a little while ago and had one explode on me and all over the kitchen. Even after cleaning up, I smell like a cross between my daddy's catfish bait and a week old dead skunk.
All of the Choc. orp. eggs stopped development and have a blood ring and half the SFH I had just stopped.
At noon my crazy neighbor called me at school and said I had a chicken in her yard and I needed to come home IMMEDIATELY and the cops were on the way. The principal had to find me a sub long enough for me to come home and put up the chicken. When I got here my Australorp rooster was at the barn walking the fence trying to get back to his hens. Funny part is the fence is 6-8 feet high and his wings are clipped so he can't fly. The only way he could get out is if someone opened the gate. I text her and told her he was up and I needed to get back to work. She told me I needed to check my gate as she thought he could squeeze through. (a whole 3 inches) and the gate is on MY property and the only way she would know is if she came over and looked.
Sorry, just needed to rant.....
Ohh, crazy neighbors! So glad mine aren't quite that crazy....yet...
I'm starting to think this day needs to just end. My mom failure moment was while making cookies with my 5yo daughter today. I looked down while she was manning the stand mixer like she's done tons of times before and she leaned in a bit to close and her hair got caught in the shaft and whooop! Hair came off like an epilady had gotten too close. No blood, but a 2 inch square patch is now missing the hair on the top! Poor thing! Luckly there is enough for a combover side ponytail. She's terribly embarassed. I almost had a heart attack seeing her head going into the mixer, I've never lept so fast in my life!
Totally scary mom moment, but seriously had me laughing. So glad I'm not the only mom with mom-failure-moments.
Hatch day! I have one each of cuckoo marans (possibly blue) from DMRippy and Barnie from Pysankygirl out, plus more pipped. From DMRippy, 7/8 went to lockdown! From Pysankygirl, 5/8 went to lockdown, but 7/8 had started developing.

Such cuties!
I have a cuckoo marans from Donna, and it is so adorable, I want more!!! My son named it "skull face" because of its markings.
Uhh, yeah... I have 100 eggs in my small styrofoam Bator, 10 chicks in the kitchen under a heat lamp, an now 30 chicks in the brooder.

I only bought them because I have customers who wants just pullets no matter breed. They pay $3 a pullet so I can make money off them. I really can't take on any new breeds, and these are just hatchery... Which is great for production but not for me to breed. My neighbor also wants me to grow out three pullets for him, and doesn't want to pay for the BCMs I have been selling so this was a cheaper way for me to get some to raise for him.
Still, until I get them sold I hope my husband doesn't go out into the shed

Out of sight, out of mind. Mine Mr doesn't go in the chicken yard, so he has no clue that I went from 13 birds to over 50 in 2 months.
shhhh... don't tell!

My feedstore sent me a coupon - buy two chicks get one free - ARG! So I am totally going to town today. Hoping from brown leghorns or production blacks/california greys to add to my layers.

Well, today has been better. Spoke with my son's teacher and got the skinny on yesterday's incident. Sounds like they get the med issue. Son has DT for the next few days. I panick every time he has an issue like this. When he was younger, I had to move day cares frequently. Each one I would let them know what his issues were and asked if they could handle his disability. Each time they would tell me of course they can and each time, they would give me a moments notice to move him. I kept wondering how you replace a school, lol. All is well now and hopefully will resolve itself. Now that I am aware, I can monitor his medication closer, and the teacher will email me what his homework assignments are.

On the chicken front: I will be driving to Northern Utah tomorrow to pick up some hatchery houdans. So excited to have live chicks, will totally make up for the bad hatch yesterday. The houdans are the breed that my son picked out, so i have been extra motivated to find some, but there are not many of quality out there (U of A lines are the only widely known ones, so really excited to have had the opportunity to swap with caj). Although, I sure hope I can get some of these eggs that I have swapped for to hatch. The hova bator has become my new best friend, it is amazing how easy and well it is working :) I don't know if the eggs that are in there now are going to make it as I believe they were a victim of Spike (yes I named the evil incubator), but hopefully the future ones will do better.

Question for all you professional hatchets: I have read that 99.5 is ideal temperature, but the hova bator instructions say 100? Which is it?

Thank you for the words of support re my rant about my son. It tends to be a really sensitive subject for me.
