This is pretty amazing -- I should take pictures but I don't want to disturb the little bugger againMy olandsk dwarf egg that I completely crushed during move-over to the hatching bator? I was sure it was dead. I mean, that shell is pulverized. A good third of it is missing! Had to do an adjustment on the 'bator (I hate doing that but it was necessary) so I took the pulverized OD egg out and just for the heck of it I candled it. It's pipped internally! Little chickie head waving around in there.
Now I'm never gonna get to sleep tonight!
Well I am an idiot.
My daughter has been asking for a duck or two. Today while at the Asian market I saw that they had some. ( have you figured where this is going yet?) The tag said "baby duck eggs". So I bought 5. I got them home and candled them to check the air cells. Imagine my shock when I see that they had been incubated already, and then put in the refrigerated case.
A major mom failure. *sigh*

We have to wash duck eggs and goose eggs depending on where the girls chose to lay them. VERY WARM water as quickly as possible, no scratchy item like a papertowel to wipe off. If you have Oxine on hand you can wipe the egg down with it after washing. If you dont a quick wipe with ACV does the trick too. Just remember avoid scrubbing, let the water wash the dirt off
The ODs are tough! I had an oopsy recently about 6 days prior to hatch, and I just knew that chick was a goner. The shell was crushed in one large area and cracked all the way around. With a little direction from DMRippy and COF, I waxed it and said a little prayer. An adorable chick hatched right on time!

This gives me hope for the slightly cracked silkie egg that I got from Reese. The air cell was still in good condition, so I waxed it and stuck it in there. Cant wait to see what it looks like when I candle it.The ODs are tough! I had an oopsy recently about 6 days prior to hatch, and I just knew that chick was a goner. They're called Baloots, people love them, I just don't understand it.EWWWWW! We have a friend that just came back from the Philippines and he was telling me about that .... yuk!
Quote: My GSBR eggs had 2 that were obviously broken and I found 2 more by accident... didn't see it when I candled not sure why. I waxed them and put them in with a paper towel under them, because the wax tends to stick to the tray... figured a paper towel might help.![]()
