Well... My incubator is just about garbage. What work Ed did had to be taken all out. The wires he used were too big (housing wire) and have damaged my thermostat now too. The best that I can do is to hope that if I can figure it out, that it's not too far damaged to still work. He KNOWS that I won't give up on this. He knows how important it is to me. I think he basically just wants me to completely fry it and give up completely. Which, I don't know if he wants me to quit 100% on incubating eggs or what, since all bators are going to be wired the same way that he deems unfit... So, at absolute "best" if that's his intentions, is I spend $700 or $800 or whatever and have a new bator that still has the wiring that he dislikes... My best bet, is he's hoping that I just don't buy a new one and then he gets his way... Since I can't exactly afford a new incubator right now. Sometimes I wonder what's going through peoples' heads.

I'm taking yet another break from the bator. I can only handle so much frustration before I have to walk away. :/ That's usually the point where G swoops in and saves the day, but he's confused and he's confusing me further, because he wants to set it up without the relay or the ac/dc converter and go from there. *Sigh* I just need a moment to think about it, drink some coffee, smoke a cigarette and then get back to it.

Moral of the story, if you don't know anything about electricity besides that it can kill you, don't try upgrading an incubator, because in all honesty, it's not worth the hassle. Not having an incubator at all is worse than having one that spiked every several weeks. :/

Oh no! So now you don't have a working thermostat either? What kind is it?

Maybe you could take some pics and post them for people to help you figure it out. Aren't there some incubator building threads on BYC too?

Oh, no....that is the wheatgrass I am sprouting for the goats in the bathroom!!!! LOLOL we don't even have grass like that when it IS spring. (dogs have pounded the lawn into hardpack)

Love it !

Part of the problem, I think, is that the diagram that this guy has written out doesn't match his video OR the diagram for the actual thermostat. In order for his diagram to "work", you have to flip the paper over, so the writing is on the bottom of the page and you have to try to read through it that way, or flip everything else upside down. THEN, when you hook it up based solely on his diagram, the thermostat doesn't even have power, because his diagram doesn't have the wire that goes from one bay to the other bay in the thermostat itself, like it's supposed to. HOWEVER, if you DO have the power connected in that way, you're putting ac to the dc receiver, which fries that **** relay. The relay has me completely confused, because it's a "stop light" according to Ed's layman's terms. Isn't that the entire point of the freaking thermostat? To stop power when necessary?! So why is this relay necessary? The relay is what's causing problems... It intakes DC and outputs AC, so it's like a converter, except that you need another converter to convert everything back. For MY understanding, that relay is stupid and unneccesary, but the guy claims that it's required for the thermostat to work. I need to research the stupid relay and figure out exactly what it does.

Well I dropped off my truck at the farm I board my horses. They also own an auto body shop and they are going to take it in tomorrow and see why my airbag and check engine lights are on. Should not interfere with my trip, but even with the discount he is giving me I will be borrowing money from my dad to pay the bill. I have $500 a month right now coming out of my paycheck that I will starting getting back again come June. Life will be much easier then!

My yard is a wet snowy muddy icy mess. I am glad it is warming up, but I hope when I get back it is not so nasty out. It has rained all day adding to the ick. My chickens look like drowned rats!

/\ Kentucky Blue Grass ! We have flowers coming up all over the place here in 'Bama.

I'm so jealous. Even my neighbors flowers come up before mine do!! I guess it doesn't help that we are so far North the sun comes up BEHIND my house!! So all the people on one side of the street have flowers just poking up while the opposite side has flowers 12" UP!! But hey I guess I can't complain I am in zone 3B/4A but I still have butterfly bushes!

So sorry to hear about the truck! I hope it is fixed quickly and it costs less than you expected.
