@ Madamwlf
I would cry too. We have a old old old RIR hen who looks like death warmed over. She lays eggs the size of Scovie ducks (once a month or every two months) and has the greatest personality. She is from the second group of LF chickens we bought 5 years ago. I think she is like 10 yrs old or older. I travel to keep her vetted. She is the only one who does see a vet regularly. She talks to me, wanders into the house all the time, and is the baby. My DH has almost gotten into fist fights over her (people walking their dogs off leash. A bike rider picked her up once when he stopped to rest and tried to ride off with her). She is a part of our family.

@Snow- We are getting spits and sputters of snow here. Nothing ever sticks. TN is really great climate wise. I have been complaining of the cold all morning, but it is 40 here and that is cold to me. We will be into the 70's by the end of the week if the weather people are correct.

Would any one with Porcelian silkies like to do a private swap???

My daughters(sebrightmom) shed burned down, and she lost all her chicks, baby turkeys, and all her kids show birds, but the worse was she lost all of her porcelian silkies, and those are the ones my grandson loved most. He is really upset over losing them. He is 6yrs old and I'd like to try to replace them for him. Please email me at [email protected] if you'd like to trade
Send a PM to Marie (emvickery) she has them. I no longer have them otherwise I would. Please take a look at my breeds page. If I do have ANYTHING she would want, send me a PM. I already owe her some PBR and promised to send LCO's or BO's for her son as extra's.

Sorry to hear about all the chicken losses and extremely sorry about Sebrightmom's loss! That must be devastating.

Does anyone on here need a heritage RIR cockerel? It looks like I have three more than I need. LOL I have RC and SC that were hatched in November. These are from Jim Heinz' Underwood line.

G'morning!! We have about 4" of snow so far and it's still coming down. I had to go clear all the nets and shovel the pens a bit. Did I mention I'm tired of snow? Really tired of it.

On a much sadder note for me, my oldest hen Georgia is dying. She was part of the original chicks we bought 3 years ago to start all this madness. I noticed her walking funny yesterday. She has a very bloated belly area which means most likely internal laying. I can't believe I cried yesterday over a chicken. She is more then that though. She never acted like a chicken, more like a dog. Always followed you around. Jumped for worms. I'm loosing my baby girl. I have to find a nice spot to bury her when she goes. She's the only one I ever named. Named her after a lady I work with. They both have attitude and personality. Why must chickens hide their illnesses? I could have saved her.

I am so sorry to hear about Heather's losses! I don't have any porcelain Silkies, but if she wants anything else I have, I would gladly drive to meet you with some.

My oldest is turn 11 at the end of April. She asked last night if I could please set eggs so they would hatch on her birthday, so her friends could see brand new chickies.

I love my daughter. I guess I'll be turning on the incubator sooner than later. Now to see if any of my spring swaps can be sent...

I made buttercream roses to put on the cake. We were going to paint them in burgundy dust stuff... but that didn't work very well so we used REAL roses. Butter cream is easy to smooth. Use plenty of meriangue powder and let it sit till firm to the touch. Put wax paper over that and SMOOTH with a spatula or your hand and finger when needed.

We pulled off a wedding with food for about 100 people for about $3000 - $5000 if you include rings and honeymoon. Gold was 1/2 the price it is now though.
Wax paper... I've never heard of that trick. I might have to try it!

It sounds like you did a great job on the wedding, I'm sure it was beautiful. I had over a year to plan my wedding, so I started buying things every paycheck well in advance. Made it seem like I paid a lot less, but I never kept track of the totals.

I have decided I am not meant to have Basque. I have set about 40 eggs from three different people and have managed to hatch 2 chicks. I found one of those with a severely dislocated knee yesterday. It is still getting around fine, but I am afraid I am going to have to cull it. I have 8 eggs in the incubator right now that I keep holding on to but am pretty sure that none of them are developing. I don't know what I am doing wrong because everyone else is getting excellent hatches from these.

I am going to have to find someone local and get chicks if I want them.

for all of you.
Crystal, if you have a SC you want to get rid of, I am interested, I could replace my production RIR for my sexlinked eggs. Let me know.
