shock collar.
I lived down there for one summer (teenage runaway in a runaway shelter....no kidding) and yeah....wow.  new definition for humidity for me.  although honestly, we have humid here, too.  my "dry incubation" has been around 25%

Wow - colorful teenage years! We had a homeless teen live with us (part of a church outreach) for about a week when I was little, and my friend and I "adopted" a homeless teen off the streets of New Orleans when we were in our early 20s. He lived with her for about 6 months. Awesome soul.

Once again... its snowing... and cold.... did someone forget to tell the weather its spring? I am just glad I am not in Maryland like Madam (burr...). My chickies don't like this warm and cold weather change. I have broodies and hens going on strike- oddly enough... in my "general population" pen they have doubled egg laying numbers- go figure. I have a 5 month old choc orp that went broody- luckily I will have 2-3 more hens laying in about 6 weeks or so. I have a blue laced red wyandotte hen that has been broody for over 2 months now. I finally gave her eggs about 3 weeks ago from my general population pen and I think I am going to take some mystery eggs from the incubator on day 19 and just give them to her because this is getting really ridiculous.

Even though we have very high humidity here, I'm incubating in the house. The AC sucks out most of the humidity, so the bators usually register about 20-30% I think.

You should come visit!

(Just had my son check and current humidity is 24%)
Would love to come down. DH & I went to New Orleans 3 years ago for our 25th wedding anniversary and had a blast. We live in Shreveport for years and never made the trip down. We weren't brave enough to go during Mardi Gras.

I don't even like going down there during Mardi Gras!

I have decided I am not meant to have Basque.  I have set about 40 eggs from three different people and have managed to hatch 2 chicks.  I found one of those with a severely dislocated knee yesterday.  It is still getting around fine, but I am afraid I am going to have to cull it.  I have 8 eggs in the incubator right now that I keep holding on to but am pretty sure that none of them are developing.  I don't know what I am doing wrong because everyone else is getting excellent hatches from these.

I am going to have to find someone local and get chicks if I want them.

We had a guy on the Washington forum with the same issue. He got a new thermometer hygrometer . Found out his tempurature was too high and his humidity was low. Made some adjustments and has 18 babies today hatching out. Might be worth checking out if others are having good hatch rates.

yeah...I have been having issue with my dog also. Great Pyrenees / Maremma . My dog has dismembered some of mine. There is lots of good info and advice on some FB pages. Without another LGD to "train" your puppy, it is up to you to train, it is alot of dedication and work.

Thanks for the links - I knew it was going to be a lot of work, and I'm up to it, I just want to it right the first time. :)
shock collar.

Doesn't work with this breed - they have a high pain tolerence

Well was getting ready to bid on a rare chick assortment but my wife informed me, Madam that you are the high bidder so now I will just hope you get them. Now to wait on the next assortment, I so would bid on the Brahmas but they are already a little high.

I bought two new ones. It isn't that because temps are spot on and other eggs are hatching from the same incubator. It is just that breed which makes absolutely no sense.

It actually does not work with alot of breeds. At bite work classes I would see Staffy's with two on their neck and one around their groin. Then you have Mally-i-gators who need something that will stop a train.....
Thankfully my GSD's were pretty sensitive and my big male only needed told he was a nasty boy (in a mean baby voice). The female is a bit stubborn, but I only ever used a vibration on her.

***Please clear Amyable. Her PP has been paid :O)

I wasn’t a horrible kid…heck I didn’t even do drugs and I made good grades. Something in me just snapped one day and I left. My parents were in a long drawn out thing that ended with divorce (FINALLY! They are SO much happier now) and all my friends were a year ahead of me and had gone off to college. I just wanted my life to start, too. I was DONE. Just didn’t know how to make it happen. And I lived in a rural “nice” area where I had never seen what I saw in New Orleans. The Runaway shelter & not having a safety net were eye-openers for me.

So I went back to VA and lived with my Aunt to finish out HS until I went to college.

Probably one of the best things I ever did for myself financially, though. I was considered “independent” which equaled 10k in Pell grants and student loans that were low interest at the time. (5-8%) that and really decent SAT scores got me into a good college and back on the right track.
