I have a problem and figured id ask the other chick addicts what they would do. I live in town and i have 4 1 yr old girls i thought they werent allowed in town but after some calls were made i was told by the former police chief now town manager that iwas allowed to have them. So i found the hatching eggs i wanted and bought an incubator. Now i have 8 four day old chicks i hatched. Only problem the day after they hatched the city ran an article in the paper saying they were no longer going to be allowed in town. I am really upset i dont want to get rid of my babies. But i cant hide that many have to make some phone calls inthe morning i guess. Just doesnt seem right if you ask me especially since i was told i was the only person to ever call and see if they were allowed if they knew about the rule change which he should of he should have warned me. What would you do?

I don't think they can do that. Usually individuals who already have what was "outlawed" are grandfathered in. Meaning you can usually keep what you have but once they die you can not replace them.

The swap last night was great fun and apparently exhausting...as soon as it was done I set the laptop on the table, sat back on the couch and just woke up! lol!

Good morning everyone and Happy Easter!

I know....I feel a little hung over! The first thought this morning "OMG, I have 70 chicks coming in the mail this week!"
My hatch was almost a total failure. I had 1 hatch out of 34 set... 20 cream legbars and 14 sulmtalers. Earleen Henny (cream legbar) was two days early and still had her yolk sac. Had to go buy her a companion, a polish was the tiniest chick my neighbor had and it's twice the size of her, even though she is 4 days older. I'm sure the extended power outage during the tornado was the culprit, eggs got down to 72F degrees. I'm chickenless, except for these two. I have two empty incubators also. Thankfully Madam and CrazyPetLady have cream legbar eggs they will be sending me.

Now to stalk cjwaldon for some more sulmtalers!
I am soooooo sorry!!!!!

Okay, I'm going to keep a list of people's guesses. See who was close or on the money. These guys are due to hatch April 6th. I put in 19 eggs, and pulled one for blood ring. The rest of chugging along.

Good Morning, Happy Chicken People! Happy Easter!

I watch those backward swaps for a bit, but they are always way too rich for my blood. Although there were a couple things I wish I had had something to offer besides pp. Oh, well. I will watch from afar, I reckon!
I know, right? whew...there was some really crazy stuff flying around.
Had a great show yesterday Had grand champion LF with a salmon Faverolle pullet. and grand Champion Bantam with a Modern game pullet. and reserve bantam with a white silkie hen. Reserve champion LF with a black cochin hen. Champion RCCL bantam with a BBR d' anver pullet. and champion OEGB with a crele cockerel. So my family and I had a great show.

And in the serama table top show I had Champion Frizzle with superman the cock on my aveater. Champion hen. and Champion cockerel.
My son in the youth show Had Champion Hen and champion cockerel and won overall reserve grand champion with the hen
Congrats!!!! sounds like you swept up!!!!!
I'm bummed. We're putting down our old tom turkey today, Bob. He would have been eight years old next month. He's been having leg problems this winter, which actually appears to be gout, but this morning he was on his back. Righting him was temporary. Poor old guy. We're gonna miss him.
hugs.

That sucks. Stoopid power outages.
Speaking of CCL eggs, I have 18 eggs cooking from my birds (for someone else). Anyone want to take a guess as to how many White Legbars I'll hatch from 18 eggs????
I guess 4 because 3 and 5 are already taken!!!

They need to be grandfathered in. seriously. they said it was alright and then they changed their minds. that isn't fair

Okay serama folks. What can I put a pair of Seramas in? They are taking up a much needed brooder so I need to move them out so I can move some chicks in.

Don't hope!!! Insist that your city respect your constitutional rights as a property owner. The birds were on your property before the change in zoning, it would cause you great hardship to lose them. The constitution protects you from this happening. Most cities, especially with bumbling city officials, will back right down. You will win in a court fight. The first thing I would do, however, is make sure several people witness that you did, in fact, have the birds before the change. I have had to fight this battle, they just need to know you are serious about it.

"A grandfather right , also known as a grandfather clause, means that a property owner who built a certain type of structure before zoning laws were put into place, can continue using the property in the same way and without restrictions. These odd properties that don't fit the zoning around them are often referred to as having a non-conforming use.
These grandfather rights apply to land use in several different ways."
