I think my post got lost last night when everyone was quietening down for the evening--I need help with lavender and lacing genetics.

I have a barred lav EE that is lightly barred, but really red combed. The two seem to clash as far as telling me the sex of this chick. Barring looks female, but comb male?

I also hatched some of our chicks from before we separated our birds. Lav orp hen with a GLW. Will that lav gene be in the black chicks and the gold chicks? Will any of them feather out with lacing?

It is quite possible that this is a male chick that only got 1 copy of the barring gene from dad, but not mom. So, his barring would suggest female (females can only carry 1 copy of the gene while males can carry up to 2 copies of the barring gene). The lavender gene only expresses itself with 2 copies, so your GLW/Lav chicks will not look lavender.

Just what it says. There are days it seems my posts just go by. Just had a bad morning. Found one of my Part bart dead this morning.
I'm so sorry. I think we all feel that way sometimes. Sorry about the P. Bart also.

On a personal note, looks like we are headed to the Mayo clinic next week. We will head out on the afternoon of the 9th. Andy has testing and doctor's consults on the 10th and 11th, and then we make the mad dash back down. 23+ hours of driving in 4 days separated by two days in a hospital = YUCK!

I'm sad for him that it had to be during the day he was supposed to fly out for his personal interview with CA Technology, but the doctors there said it was better not to wait until the next opening of the 22nd.

Keep good thoughts for us, and thanks for all the support.

So sorry to hear that! I have a package sent from Indiana to Michigan almost a week ago that was scanned at the PO then dispatched to the sort facility and never heard from again. Even my local Postmaster said that her family is complaining to her about the PO and packages, mail, etc. She even admits that the PO is really doing a lousy job lately!

Well, with everything closing up, how can you honestly expect them to do much better? Lol. I sometimes feel bad for them. Of course, when it's my package, I getpretty cranky about it, lol.

Won't they carry the lavender gene?...if I bred one back to an orp later, would that one be lavender? What about the lacing genetics...I'm lost on those.

I do know that the roo in the EE case was the lavender bird so that means the barring came from mother. That means I have a cockerel. Now I have to figure out which pen I should put him into.
