I think my post got lost last night when everyone was quietening down for the evening--I need help with lavender and lacing genetics.
I have a barred lav EE that is lightly barred, but really red combed. The two seem to clash as far as telling me the sex of this chick. Barring looks female, but comb male?
I also hatched some of our chicks from before we separated our birds. Lav orp hen with a GLW. Will that lav gene be in the black chicks and the gold chicks? Will any of them feather out with lacing?
It is quite possible that this is a male chick that only got 1 copy of the barring gene from dad, but not mom. So, his barring would suggest female (females can only carry 1 copy of the gene while males can carry up to 2 copies of the barring gene). The lavender gene only expresses itself with 2 copies, so your GLW/Lav chicks will not look lavender.
