Yeah but it seems awfully thick...if it were just a thin membrane I would cut it...I guess its really the only option, I do have ferric subsulfate to stop the bleeding, which I use to do puppy dewclaws...will probably have to recruit a helper, lol.

Yeah, it stinks but it looks to be the only option. Not sure I could do it but definitely find a helper.

For you Polish breeders out there. Is it worth it putting a light in my Polish coop? I really want to hatch some of their eggs but only one hen is laying and sporadically at best. The other 2 were but stopped. Are Polish good winter layers? If it will help I will put a light out there.
I put lights on mine and they lay alright. But like was mentioned before polish are so so layers. And mine don't lay in the winter unless I put lights on them.

Got eggs today from cjwaldon - They arrived safe and sound! I can't wait to get them in the incubator. If all goes well I should have little Norwegian Jaerhons the first week of December....

I just replaced the bulb 2 weeks ago. I had just let my "old" girls go and was counting on this batch to "update" my flock. Now the girls I kept are not laying. I don't know what I'll do. It's crazy to get so attached to baby chicks. So many things can go wrong....

This is a little off topic but in search of recipe. my favorite breakfast in winter is oatmeal (don't tell the girls ), problem is I am lazy when I wake up, need something I can throw in small crockpot and have ready when I get up.....small amounts, i am the only one in house that eats oatmeal.
