I didn't work for over a decade while raising my kids, as the cost of maintaining car, wardrobe and childcare exceeded my earning capacity at the time. Plus, my husband was Special Forces, and was gone an easy six months out the the year, so we wanted the continuity of a SAH mom for them. When I went back to work, I simply explained that to prospective employers. The initial jobs I could get were not to my taste, but I busted my butt to do a good job just to get a good reference when I left. I still ended up going back for a graduate degree and changed my focus on what I wanted to do, but that was really due to health issues.Has anyone been a stay at home mom, not worked in a year and had to dig up references?! I've worked at two places. Both have closed. I'm kind of at a loss, because I need WORKING references! They need to be supervisors, no less. How do you figure it out and how do you explain that you just haven't worked in a year because you can't afford daycare?! I mean, they're going to automatically assume that you're lazy or whatever because you have been "sitting at home" for a year, not even any volunteer work.

If you end up asking a previous place to forward old references, explain why to the prospective employer. They should realize that a lot of businesses have gone under, and tracing supervisors could be impossible. They may admire your ingenuity in getting the old references forwarded!
you need to describe it the correct way.I asked G about it and he said it shouldn't hurt anyways. Thank goodness. I didn't think to ask him... he does the interviews and such for the prison... duh, he's a great person to ask, lol. I just hope all goes well. I freak out over this kind of thing. I did get okay scores though. 91, 3 93's, 99 and a 96, so fingers crossed that the test scores are okay enough to lean them towards my favor... and that the reference forwarding doesn't turn them off. Plus an essay... ugh.
you can ship those chocolates to meAwesome! They are really cute! I ended up with two. Now to figure out how many I have to add to them, to ship them to someone....
I have had several turkeys like that; chirp, chirp, chirp. They stopped only when I held them. I think that mine are just needy little buggers.....I have a chick that hatched last week that is driving me crazy. All it does is chirp non stop. Everyone else is fine, but it constantly chirps. Nothing appears to be wrong with it, but it won't shut up. Even as it sleeps which is rare it chirps. It's like a cricket when you are trying to go to sleep. Any ideas besides killing it? I want to because something is obviously wrong with it, but my son wants to wait. I looks heathy enough, eats drinks, and CHIRPS the whole time. Doesn't appear to be cold or hot. It's just really obnoxious. It's like listening to a baby crying and wondering when the parent is going to take care of it. It brings out all the motherly protective responses, but I can't seem to figure out what is wrong! Oh my god I think I have a colicky chick!
